How To How to root and install droid 2.1

So... NO!! I think Id rather find someone near KCMO and have them root my Droid for me without the 2.1 update. Anyone?

Im kind of lost on what to do. I started flashing and got stuck on step 10 where i flash the SirPsychoS whatever. Well I couldn't find that on the droidhelper. So i skipped on and now it seems like nothing happened. As far as I can tell nothing bad has happened. But I'd like to know what to do from here.

Alrighty it worked but should I use the clear status or the non one? I assume if I get clear it's literaly completely clear and cant see my staus (3g signal battery ect)?

Sorry its probably a stupid question.

Ok, successfully installed this and got it going... love it and thank you SO much :D

Registered on these forums because this seems to be where all the knowledgeable people are.

Now for my issue: My phone was rooted, used root helper before so this was a breeze, but when I hit the menu button, the names of my apps do not show up right, any idea why?

Edit: It looks better in landscape... the alignment seems to be a tad off on my phone

Re Edit: Sorry, reboot fixed it. Lovin' 2.1

that's a bug with the rom - just press the power button off-on off-on (sometimes it works just once, sometimes twice). The light should go back on.

I think there is a patch somewhere as well, but turning the device off then back on again worked for me.

My phone is rooted and when I install the tools and roothelper.apk the root helper force closes on me when I try to mount system 3 or 4. I have done this process before but it didnt bring me to the new reboot menu, I still get the same old triangle and !. Any ideas?

Linking to your how-to in another guy's how-to is so not cool

well some guy in that thread had the same problem, and that thread has the fix. same forum, doesnt matter. its not like i linked to droid dog or something

or i could just be an ass like some of you and say "SEARCH IT"

Hey Pede7, I followed your steps on rooting my Droid to 2.1. Its cool, but its sluggish, crashes, my keyboard goes off And some of live wallpaper doesn't work. Do you have another way to do it?

If i unroot, will i lose everything?

i rooted today and didnt really find any uses i would use atm and i want to unroot but want to know if everything will be gone

Hello everyone, thanks for all your helpful posts, it has been illuminating as I've been going through the rooting process.

After I successfully rooted my droid, I attempted to install the 2.1 update. Ever since then, it has gone to hell lol. After installing it, the phone just kept restarting, with the motorola logo showing over and over. I went back in, tried to restore it from my backup, and it would just cause the motorola logo to hang, going no further. I factory restored the settings to no avail.

I am unable to access the SD card in order to mount it, so at the moment the only thing I can access is the update.zip.

Any suggestions or help would be much appreciated, thanks. :)

that's really odd that's happening b/c it runs smooth on my droid. i dont understand why you're not able to access your sd card. have you gone into recovery> mount options> enable USB mass storage? if so, do you have a sd card reader? i suggest that you redownload the 2.1 rom and make sure you're taking the extracted files and placing them in the very last folder within the nandroid folder on your sd and try again

technically yes but you can backup all your apps with astro file manager from the android market. everything else is sync'd w/ google so when you sign in again, contacts, calendar, settings etc. are restored

I unrooted it and tried to restore it back to factory settings, which didn't end up helping the situation. So now I'm really stuck. Just going to have to get myself an sd card reader and hope I can somehow get access to it again on the phone. It appears now that my battery won't hold a charge because the phone won't turn on. Ahhh issues lol

how did you try to restore it to factory settings b/c if you're unrooted, then that's automatic
