Root How to root Defy Plus (MB526)

Thanks a lot ! After trying a number of methods to get root rights, yours finally did the trick.

In case this helps others, here is my phone information:
- System: 45.0.2310.MB526.Retail.en.FR
- Model: MB526
- Android Version: 2.3.6
- Build: 4.5.1-134_DFP-231

I downloaded the SBF as instructed and flashed them using "sbf_flash" instead of RSD Lite (I am using Linux Ubuntu 12.04.1). I fond how to "wipe data / factory reset" on Motorola support site. I installed "root checker" to confirm that my phone was rooted.

Louella, you showed me yours, now i'll show you mine :p

Hello Sujin

A couple of questions for you, since you would have the exact same phone as me not only in terms of H/ware but also OS.

* Did you take a backup of the stock ROM before rooting to take care of any warranty related issues that may arise in the future? If so how?
I have downloaded the listed stock rom, but am not sure if it is the exact same rom the phone was shipped with. Sorry can not post the link here as I do not enjoy that privilege as yet.

* Also have you flashed any custom ROM? If so, which and what is your experience? What was the method you used?

* Does this custom ROM allow call recording apps to work?

I have downloaded & installed RSDLite, 2ndinit 2.3 I think and an installer as indicated in this thread. Am just not confident enough to pull the trigger as yet.

Regards

aCs

I pulled the trigger today and rooted my phone Defy Plus. Rooting went fine,
and then disaster struck.

SO while I have escaped bricking it, it is royally messed up.

The problem is it is recognising a 3G connection from my service provider but not a 2G connection. With the extortionate 3g pricing we have here, I am now sitting on a disaster.

So please if anyone can help me out, will appreciate it very much. Thanks in advance.

Hi aCs_ND!
Probably way too late but I'm not spending that much on fora. Sorry to hear about 2G not working. Maybe you should try other SBF's? Which ones did you use? You might want to do step 9 again. Not sure if that would fix it though.

I've got a question about this: How can I do a backup of my stock OS and current settings (nandroid?) using ClockworkMod (in 2nd Init, right?) if I have to do a factory reset to install 2ndInit first?
