How To How to root (for noobs) and install native multitouch browser (ported from milestone)

after rooting, do I need to keep the update.zip file on my SD Card or can I ditch it now?

Also DroidRootHelper.apk does that need to stay in the root of the SD Card, can I move it to Tools if not just remove it all together?

I followed th OPs instructions and everything went like clockwork. Got as far as installing the MTBrowser file and noticed that all of my apps have dissappeared from my phone (except facebook and settings). All of the homepage stuff is there though. My question is, is there a quick and easy way to make the apps show back up or should I just restore and start over?

Any help would be appreciated

Rob

live wallpapers is on 2.1, you can a 2.1 rom after rooting if you please. no you need a computer to put the update.zip on your phone from what i know.

OK I followed everything but when I got to the flash recovery step, no sir phsycos was on there, I think that's the way to do nandroid backup, so what do I need to do?

same thing with me, the sir psychos recovery option is just not there.

nevermind figured it out :P it is just the large box under recovery at the bottom, there is no mention of sirpsychos prior to clicking on that.

What I did was redo the whole thing from the mounting steps and make sure you aren't plugged into your computer. Then do the steps in order and click the bottom recovery box at the end. Then reboot recovery and from there just do as the guide says if it worked correctly

This worked perfectly for me. Getting the SirPsychoS's recovery onto my phone was the last speedbump between me and my now rooted, overclocked, wifi tether enabled droid!

DUDE!!!! DUDE!! DUDE!!!!.........hockeyfreakb4......Thanks so much for this information man......you would not believe the constant run around and confusion its been for me to get this done.....between all the keyword searches ive done and trying to follow up with the seemingly different language common users speak......this is such a great help....so simple and easy.....well put together .....im not a stranger to technology and i consider myself pretty computer saavy....but found it difficult with all the different options and add ons out there to just get this simply done.....works like a charm....major major props dude!!!!

Thanks Hockeyfreak

That is the best walkthrough ive used so far.

For some reason, I cannot open the browser. It keeps force closing. Any recommendations?

Confirmed, Droidroothelper app force closes on the mounting of system 3. I have tried 6 times and one time I got it to mount system 3 and then it would just force close system 4 over and over.

Yea I redownloaded it and even did this from two different computers (one windows 7 (64) one xp)

I don't have any special apps running at all, nothing in the notification bar at all. I don't get how anybody has any success with this, just force closes over and over and over...

Finally got it to not force close on the mounting system 3 and 4 after many many tries.

I am using Rootexplorer from the market but now my default browser is not there. The only step I am not sure about is when you say type "sync" in Terminal Emulator. Every other step I did exactly as you did but using Rootexplorer.

Thanks for the help!

I'm not sure I understand. I get to the stock recovery image, and that's it. I hit the volume up and camera, but only four options and no large box anywhere. This has been the only hiccup I've had since rooting, and I'm about to bang my head against a wall.

I've tried using the rootyourdroid.info guide (great site, btw) and the guide Matth3w posted (another great compilation) which uses Android Terminal Emulator and I keep getting the stock recovery.

Please, someone, help!

EDIT: Yes, I finally did it! I won't say I figured it out, I just repeated the process (yet again). Whatever happened, it worked! I am now a root user w/ Bugless Beast.
