Root [how-to] root: Gingerbread 2.3.3

DONE and DONE.

That was wayyyyyyy too easy. And kinda fun.

My one snag was that my phone did not want to go to hboot, I had to pull the battery. No bigs.

If you have trouble entering the beta key, you can copy paste that into the S-off tool.

Titanium backup says 21% done.

right click on the edge of the window (not in the black part, up in the border). I had some trouble with this being like, wtf. Right click the top of the boarder of the window.

I can't get the superuser.zip file. when i click on your link in the first post, I just get a 10 second countdown clock that repeats and repeats. Any help? or can someone post the .zip file on here?

So if I took the gingerbread update....can I use revolutionary? I thought it was for froyo users only

im having an issue sending and recieving picture messages since i did this root and installed virtuous rom from the rom manager..

Revolutionary has been updated to work with the OTA gingerbread update.

Where did you download the virtuous ROM at? Look around there, probably XDA, and I'm sure there is a thread about it where you can post any issues with the ROM. I'd look and find a link, but I'm limited on time right now.

posted this in the wrong forum just now.

I ran all this and now my astro file manager shows a folder that says "root", but its empty. after I ran the .zip file, it said I was rooted, to hit back and reboot. i did that.

problem is, my phone looks the same. i still can't delete city ID or any of the other bloatware programs.

am I rooted or not? if so, how do i delete all the crapware?

Get TiBackup from the market. You can use that to delete all the bloatware. If you can delete the bloatware, you are rooted if you can't, you're not. The "root" folder in your dir. has nothing to do with wether you're rooted or not.

I'm definitely a noob, but I hope you can help anyway. I used Revolutionary and it looks like I made it all the way through the S-Off portion but it failed to install CMR and closed itself after. So my phone is stuck in the fastboot mode. Should I reboot it and try and install a ROM Manager from the market? Do I need to manually flash the recovery? I'm pretty sure I am about one click away from bricking my phone. THANKS!!!

I have a problem with the HTC Incredible 2. I successfully got S-off. However, the program crashes when I try to install CWM. Every time I try to type "y" then hit enter (When it asks if I would like to download CWM) It crashes immediately after. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

Check XDA for some instructions on how to manually flash CWM. Basically you put it on your C drive, and use a dos prompt and some commands I don't know.

Sorry for no link (on phone) but check XDA, dinc2 forum, general section, there is a root with gb thread. Good directions for a manual flash of cwm.

Thanks a ton. I got it working. For anyone else who may have experienced the same problem as me with CWM not working, Just use this guide from the following link.

Are you copy/pasting the key?

Copy it into notepad or another text file, then lift a copy from that and paste into alpharev tool.

Same thing. Here's what I have done,

  • Installed the HTC drivers
  • Uninstalled the Vcast Crap on my PC
  • Opened up the Revolutionary-0.4pre4 tool
  • Type in key which is accepted and Then it says "Zerging root... this might take aminute ore so...
Any thoughts or suggestions, ideas, anything (except that, I don't want to know that, no one does).
