Root How To Root HTC Evo 4G 2.3.5

When I am in the command prompt it says waiting on device after I have done everything, what am I supposed to do?? I've done the steps leading up to that and it's not reading my phone or something, any help? :/

make sure that your phone is in fastboot.

How do you download and put the vr swiper on your card?

either in recovery if you have already or boot up your phone and connect it to the computer and select set as disk drive then transfer the file to the card.

or you can use a card reader to transfer the file.

or you can download the file from your phone to the sd card directly.

Am I able to root my EVO 4G and still keep my 4G? Also if I root am I able to put it back to the standard settings? Basically I want to be able to do screen shots but from what I've ben told with the EVO you have to root to get that access

You can keep your 4g dependent on what rom/kernel you flash....MikG v3.11 has 4g working and screenshot availability....I ran that rom for 4 months...it's nice.
I'm not sure what you mean by "stock" setting tho.

BTW...Welcome to the forums...ask anything, we can help.! I personally may not know an answer but surely are others who do!

what do you mean "either in recovery if you have already or boot up your phone and connect it to the computer and select set as disk drive then transfer file to the card"? Is this in the bootloader screen??

Should pop up as an option when you plug your phone in while it is booted up normally

Can someone pleeeaaase help me locate the sd card on my computer when my phone is plugged in so that I can flash a rom onto my phone?

would mount as disk drive be the same thing? and how do I know if the adb command method worked properly? sorry for all the questions :/

Ask away my friend, no problem...yes, mount as disk drive is the same thing.
As far as the adb command, I would have to read from your first post to know what exactly is going on, so that's what I will do.

well the other questions I figured out, I think.. When I ran the adb command it said it went through on the command prompt but it didn't reboot the phone or anything. It does say "unlocked" however on the bootloader screen

o.k...just refresh my memory, you are trying to root with the htc dev method?
If so, are you doing it as we speak? And what step are you on?
it's been a while since I did that method, thought I'd follow along on the htc site to help you.
:D

that's correct. I did the recovery step last night with the adb command method but wasn't sure if I did it right.

After that command, you copied/pasted the "identifier token" and I think then you got an email with your unlock code? If you say you are unlocked, you should also have s-on correct?
If so you are ready to continue in that guide you are following.

well i finished the htcdev bootloader unlocker which was step 1 and then I did step 2 which was recovery with the adb method and yes it says "unlocked" at the top of the bootloader screen and s-on

o.k. I gotcha...to know if that adb command worked, you would have to select recovery from the bootloader screen....when your recovery comes up, It should say Amon ra v2.3 on the screen somewhere, perhaps at the bottom...
The recovery screen will be a black screen with generic white text and a small pic of the phone (?) in the middle....

It says "Build : RA-supersonic-v2.3"

Yeah, that's it!!:D
I didn't remember what it said since I switched recoveries, but I ran that one for a long time....very good recovery...
Keep goin' man, yer doin good!

Awesome! Ok so next is flashing the rom right? And when I put vr superwipe on my card while it's plugged in, is there a specific folder I should put it in or just anywhere?? and the same with the actual rom?

You will generally want them on what is called the root of the sd card. This means just on the sd card and not within any subfolders within it. This isn't too important though so you can put then in a folder called flashing if you want. Just know where you put then so you can get there within recovery
