You need to use the HTC method for unlocking the phone then either use captian throwbacks method or the taco root method to revert the HBOOT back to one unrevoked can unlock.
As it is that version can not be unlocked by unrevoked:smokingsomb:

and welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yeah unrevoked is pretty old now. just keep in mind that with phones as it gets older and with each update, rooting the device will get harder and harder to do as previous exploits gets closed up. so that now a newer device will most likely never work on an old exploit like unrevoked.

please read the guide the mikem0269 linked you to. also please feel free to ask any questions that you have.

ok so i moved your posts from the other thread here. it is easier to keep the conversation in one place.

again please read the guide thoroughly and feel free to ask any questions that you have.

I have an HTC EVO 4g. I know it's not current, which is probably why I'm having trouble rooting it. I went used the HTC Dev tool to unlock the boot loader. I just want to be able to root it so I can remove the bloatware. Can someone provide me with a link for the latest su? If that method's obsolete, can someone point me towards the right place to root it? I'm running Android 2.3.5 with baseband 2.15.00.12.19. I've already unlocked the boot loader, now I need to just get it rooted.

See this guide
Click on "show" under htcdev method and then you will see more step as far as a custom recovery, flashing su or rom etc....:)

Hi! I've had my HTC Evo for two years now (super obsolete, yes?!) and im just not reading up on rooting. I'm due for an upgrade, so I will be doing that soon (not sure to what just yet) but I'm trying to understand all of this rooting info. So if I root my phone I will basically be able to take off all of the garbage apps that come with the phone? Like the NASCAR crap and such that Sprint pretty much forces me to have?

Absolutely yes. But that's just the tip of the iceberg my friend.

I would definitely recommend rooting. If you are too worried to try it you can wait and root once you've upgraded (get the evo 4g lte;)!)

Have you accepted all of the latest otas? This generally makes it a little harder to root but it can still be done. For the future, if you are rooted or thinking about doing it don't accept otas! The root community usually has fixes faster than the carrier pushes them out anyway :)

I just upgrade to a Note 2 form a HTC evo 4g but i would like to root my HTC evo can someone please send me the link to get started

Start with this guide. The method you use will depend on your Hboot, but this will guide you through it.

Edit: You will more than likely have a few questions. Just read it thoroughly and ask all the questions you need to.
