Root How to root the X2?

Highland Ranger

Well-Known Member
Finally retiring my rooted Droid.

Would like to root the X2 which I am getting today (hopefully).

Is there an easy way to do it like "easyroot"?

How about some detail - like has anyone tried it, how does it work yadda yadda.

I read the article as well - but clicking on a foreign APK that could brick my phone sounds like a bad idea especially when I can ask a quick friendly question and avoid the bricking . . . . .

So - how did you do it?

I completely agree. So how about it--has anyone braver than I successfully rooted their X2?

Root Droid X2 With GingerBreak [How To Tutorial] | Redmond Pie

Instructions:

The first step is to turn on your phone, go to Settings > Manage Applications and enable USB debugging.

Once done, download the GingerBreak APK from requirements section above and save the file on your PC.

After this connect your phone to the computer, mount SD Card as disk drive and copy GingerBreak APK to SD Card root.

Now use any available Android file manager to install the APK on your phone. You can download Astro File Manager from Market for this purpose.

Once you have installed GingerBreak.apk on your phone, launch the app from Homescreen.

Press Root button in the app and wait for the exploit to run.

If everything goes as planned, your device will reboot.

Once your device reboots, go to Homescreen and check if SuperUser is present.

done.

Thanks! So have you actually done this yourself on a Droid X2? Did your experience flow as smoothly as you've described?

yep...it's as simple as that. since rooting i have installed wifi tether and used tibackup to freeze bloat.

Thread cleaned up. Let's keep this friendly and informative. :)

So the phone came with 2.2 with 2.3 supposed to be coming next week. Does it make sense to wait for the OTA update, get 2.3 then root?

Or if I root can I get 2.3 now?

Hi, I am not sure if i am doing something wrong but I have tried gingerbreak a few times, it always goes through with no problem but never gives me root access or superuser permission. I have followed every step over various sites perfect and i know isn't not that i am missing something.

Droid X2
2.3.4

Any help would be great

I have had an issue or two with the 1-click method (very rarely though), but the few times I've used DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit have all worked perfectly and quickly. It works for 2.3.4 & 2.3.5.
