Help How to set up voicemail?

Do we have visual voicemail? Can someone help me with setting it up? All I see is old school voicemail (dial 1). Can't even get that to work either.

This is my 1st android device and I'm quite technical but something that should be simple has got me stumped.

If you have or go get a google voice account you can use that for visual voicemail. It's what I'm doing, and it works pretty well.

Not ready for Google Voice. I still have no clue how to set up basic voicemail though. Anybody know? Already tried, dialing 1, calling my own number, etc. and no luck.

Phone -> Keypad -> "voicemail" key in the bottom left corner.

Really hope they add visual voice mail... I really miss it from my 3G.

A lot of times when switching phones the voicemail gets messed up and needs to be reset. What does it say when you call your voicemail?

A lot of times in the store we get the message "More information is needed to access your voicemail", which means it just needs reset.

Either stop by an AT&T store, or call Customer Care(611 from your phone), and they can reset your voicemail for you. Once done, holding down the 1 button brings you to the automated setup.

Thanks! I'm indeed getting the "more information is needed.." blurb. I'll give 611 a call.

About 5 mins after reading this post I decided to just wing it and try to figure out the Google Voice voicemail on my own. It was ridiculously easy.

Step 1: Log into your google account on your computer and go to the google voice page

Step 2: Follow the prompts that are very easy to read and make sense of.

Step 3: Download the Google Voice app from the Android Market

Step 4: Repeat Step 2 for the app

Step 5: Tweak your settings till they are the way you like them, and enjoy.

Now I have voicemail that just works the way I would expect it to, with a ton of extra options if I decide I want them. When I get a voicemail I get a notification, if I click it the Google Voice app opens and I can here it visual voicemail style (similar to the iphone) or even just quickly look at the transcribed text so I don't have to listen to it. Setup took me maybe 15 mins, and thats because I read every prompt in detail making sure I wasn't missing anything.

Ditto. I hadn't considered Google Voice before, since I was under the impression you had to use one of their phone numbers. For voicemail, however, you can use your own number.

Google Voice is very nice.

Step 3: Download the Google Voice app from the Android Market

I have searched for the Google Voice App on the market and cannot find anything by that name. The search pulls up all kinds of Google stuff, but not the voice app.

Any suggestions?

Google voice is already on your device-it is in the applications list as "voice". If you want to use google voice as your voice mail, make sure you're signed up for google voice then go online and go to settings and activate google voice for your #

Google Voice is the best. I've had it and loved it so long, I don't even remember the old, antiquated ways of voicemail.

Man O' Man... Yea, I have to say this service is pretty stinkin' awesome!

Thanks for the tip. After I read that I got everything figured out. Top notch service and app from google for sure.

That was about the only thing irritating me about Droid and now I've ended up with better than I had.

I just wish they would at the very least open up voice so people outside of the US could get voicemail... Its rather frustrating...

Hmm, not on my Captivate it wasn't. It had to be downloaded from the market. Perhaps you're confusing with Google Talk, which is pre-loaded?

Anyhow, I know Quaylus is all set now, but for future reference there's setup info, videos, and a link in the Captivate FAQ section about Google Voice. :)
