How to use WiMAX LED on HTC EVO for SMS/MMS notifications!

^^^ are you guys using the app on located on the first post???

that is the old one... find the new one on post #502 on the thread at xda.

new version 1-4-2011

  • 2011-01-04 19:11
Initial release. There will still probably be FCs, as I am trying to track down where they are coming from.
    • Added a small bit of extra error handling
    • Added a "Reset LED" option in case the service crashes without disabling the LED. You can access it by opening the app and pressing menu. It will turn the LED off (but won't mark your messages as read).

So there is a new version? Cause i get force close every so often and sometimes I get the blinking red and green light even though I've viewed the text sometimes it stays on and won't go off..

If it has not already been mentioned, you MUST delete the old version before installing the new version...

here you guy's go this is the newest version of the wimax notifier. but thier should be another release out shortly in the next few days.

When I downloaded this through my phone, it said file type not supported, and asked me if I wanted to continue. I continued.

Then, using Astro, I found the file, but it was a .bin file, and as promised, the EVO didn't know what to do with it.

However, if I try to save it to my PC desktop, it wants to save it as a .apk. Do I have to DL it to my PC, and then transfer it over to the phone via USB?

I just saved it as "wimax.apk" or something like that and used Astro to install. However, have since uninstalled both of the newer versions since the led keeps blinking even after a text message has been read lol

I never knew about this, I mean I knew about the wimax notifier but I didn't know we were able to use it! I hate that the LED isn't customizable! I'm totally DL'ing this right now.

Glad to see this program is still being updated for folks who either don't wanna root or don't wanna switch ROM's once rooted. :) Since I switched to Cyanogen, they kinda do this already, but it's cool for other folks who still want the functionality. :)

I figure it out now I changed the name in Astro to .apk but now it tells me I don't have enough space to install it and here I deleted the old one. Guess this one's a bigger file.

How long will the led flash if left un attended? The normal led is 5 min. What is the duration of the WiMax light?

When I had it installed, the led flashed until the text message was marked as having been read. Had to uninstall recently though cuz it wouldn't stop flashing even after I'd read the message

Friendly commercial so people don't get confused -

Normally, we disallow any apk-download postings because they violate copyright stuff and are hence illegal.

That said - apks for standard Android components (open source) and developer efforts put out there for the fun of it are AOK.

If the XDA dev has a PayPal, it's kinda only fair that we all only link to his stuff rather than post his apks, however. Also - that link becomes the right place to offer the dev feedback.

I'm not going to mother this situation because I think the value of not confusing versions overrides other considerations at the moment, but please keep this sort of thing in mind.

Cheers, thanksAlot, we now return to our regularly scheduled thread.

thanks for the info.

did you know the new app...
has a button .. to reset the led if it gets stuck.

this is there till the Dev figures how to fix.

idk if im beating a dead horse or anything, but would it be possible for the led to flash and also have the 4 menu buttons do alternations or strobe or something? Just thought it would be kinda cool?

Mine got stuck again today too. First time since I had this new version. But I went to the app and opened it and ran a test and then it stopped. I didn't know there was a button for if it's get stuck.

I wish there were more colors like pink and purple.I still enjoy using it though. My friend has a Samsung Transfom and I don't think it had a notification light at all wonder if this will work on her Android phone.

thanks for the info.
