My number gets ported??

So I just picked up a Micro sim for my N4 and set it up at radio shack

I ported and set up my number over from my current T mobile prepaid SIM, as their service is terrible around here..

Also I see alot of people with post about APN settings, or Issues with APN settings, and or not being able to send picture messages etc.. This Is just the problem I didnt want to run into, and with me being an android rookie, its bound to happen

Its been 6 hours or so and I have no signal bars.. Is that because the number isn't ported yet? Will i get any sort of notification when the port is done, or will I just get bars of signal/service?

hey can you start with which carrier you went to?

I may have missed it and if so I apologize.

I started w the T mobile pre paid ( not ST or Net10 T mobile ) and went to Net 10 ATT

Thanks!
Ok, I remember you talking about it, didn't want to assume it.

First thing I would say is most mobile to mobile carriers say porting the number will take up to 24 hours, I think 12 hours is normal.

let me ask you a few questions, are you on stock rom? have you checked the apn's is net 10 listed? did you already create the net 10 apn?

Do you know what information is required for it? I have seen a few apn screen shots on xda if the information net 10 provided does not work that might be a great place to look, and/or if there is a net 10 page here you could check if they have any.

oh and they will probably sent you a text message welcoming you to the network when the port is finished, T mobile did at any rate.

1) Radio shack set up everything.. I have pics of my setup that I will post asap.. On that note, what seems to be a good upload site for photos and vids? Im oldschool and plain and have always used Photobucket, but is there something better for android??

2) I have about 5 tabs open on my laptop looking at different APN settings, but dont wanna touch anyting til the port goes through, so I can see if there are any issues.. xda, net 10 , and howards forums are all open on the tabs And am just waiting to get activated before I change anything

Ok, I will wait for a text, or some service before I start to worry.. I Have just seen so many issues with people having headaches with ATT net10 service getting started that Im prepping myself for worst case scenario lol

Thanks again!

understandable.

I have not used too many img upload places, photobucket was one but I stopped using them years ago.
Imageshack has always been easy and free but a few years ago I set up my own web server so I just use that for hosting pics.

such as this one

I'll just add that you will have to turn off your phone and turn it back on again for the change to become effective. Just leaving the phone turned on won't necessarily tell you when the changes have happened.

Thanks again guys. Still nothing yet. So I just downloaded text plus. Pretty neat Lil app. To bad I could not just buy a data plan :)

Are the signal bars still not showing up?
Does the phone say no sim card?
I am fairly sure that my signal bars did not just not show up while the porting process was going on. The only time they did not show was with no sim in the phone.

Check your sim make sure its in correct. Before I got my microsim I used the full size sim from the previous phone, I cut it with a scissors and put it into the phone the sim was not in contact I had to trim the sim card to get the contacts lined up. On a actual microsim I would not expect that to be a problem.
also did you contact net 10 and give them the numbers off the microsim?
I would expect you have but trying to cover all bases.

I did not contact net10 at all I bought the sim and the prepaid card at radio shack and they did everything grrrrrrrrr... I'll check the sim the phone does not say anything so I'm guessing it's in correct..??

Sim is in right and still no bars.... I'd call net10 if I had a phone!! Lol
That sucks, the no phone part. As I said they usually say 24 hours but from my experience and what I have read 12 is usually enough.

reboot the phone(as if you havent already) and see if it starts working.:(

Well I'musing my neighbors phone lol supposed to get a call back in 7-12min from net 10

Well the port went though , and service is great!.. Buuuuut.. No texting , no internet

How am I not surprised:rolleyes:

great thank you!! again! lol

When I make a new APN, do I have to delete the other or can I just toggle back and forth .. Just wasnt sure if having 2-3-4 would cause a conflict or anything, even tho there is only one selected:)
I am fairly sure you can have more then one, the phone will use the working one.
My phone has apn for att, tmobile, and straight talk. I obviously only use tmobiles.

Those both worked great!! Ahhh Way less headache than I thought it would be, Thanks again for the help.. Internet was lost once, dont know what happened there, But deleted alll other APNs, rebooted and is working great..

DL speeds arent great, but at least their working!!

2 Mb/s Down
1 Mb/s Up

Full service on Hspa

Also just curios.. I noticed the signal bars are sometimes white, and sometimes blue .. Any reason for that?

I believe the signal bars turn blue when data is downloading or uploading.
or could be the other way around, turn white/grey when active download or upload.
