How will the iPhone 4s sell?

Lots of rumblings about people underwhelmed with the new iPhone upgrade. With Android steaming ahead strongly, do you think the iPhone 4s's sales will be disappointing?

Seems that the 4s is faster, has new features, better graphics display, better camera, better video, and better battery life, for less cash. Seems the 4s is doing what we expect: faster and better than the last one and cheaper.

Sales will be brisk, most likely.

So what is the problem?

T-Mobile must be like "F**K you guys"

Well, I gather the terms that Sprint had to agree to would simply not be possible for T-Mobile to do in its current financial state. Still, I look to T-Mobile for the hotbed of experimentation. They gave us Android, Wifi calling, low rate plans, etc. I think they're probably better off just working with Android. Their latest offerings have been pretty awesome and I bet the Nexus Prime will be on their network and may make as much of a splash as the iPhone given the hype its generating.

I think they mean T-Mobile USA.

That seems a bit odd, considering that T-Mobile in other countries apparently have the iPhone.

I'm wondering does T-Mobile in the USA use a network technology which is unique to the US and that carrier, and the iPhone doesn't support it? Rather like China Mobile which also doesn't offer the iPhone, because their 3G network(TD-SCDMA) is unique to that carrier and Mainland China.

BTW China Mobile is the world's largest carrier with most subscribers, and they don't offer the real iPhone. There's plenty of Android phones (including iPhone knock-offs) though on China Mobile. :)

Nope, there shouldn't be any major compatibility issues with the iPhone ... T-Mobile USA uses GSM, at the 1900 MHz band, I believe.

Well, the biggest problem with America is the need for control mentality the carriers have. Every single carrier in the US operates on some far bygone different frequency. It's really any wonder the iPhone made it to any of our carriers and we're the origin point. I really wish we were more like Europe with unified frequencies and the ability to take your phone to any carrier you please, but the cell phone market here (especially after the smartphone boom) is absurdly cutthroat.

As for T-Mobile, we use 2100 Mhz (hence our penetration issues) for basic 3G/UMTS and 1700 Mhz for the HSPA+ area I believe. T-Mobile USA was the biggest buyer of the AWS spectrum years back and they really did a good job with managing it. Too bad everyone looks at the carrier like a black sheep when they've really been great with low dropped calls, customer service, value, and Android over the years.

It's a similar situation here in Mainland China, there are three state owned carriers:

China Unicom who operate a GSM/UMTS 3G network using same frequencies as Europe. They offer the iPhone. However their coverage in rural China leaves a lot to be desired.

China Mobile operate a GSM network, again using the same frequencies as Europe. Their 3G network uses a technology which is unique to China and nowhere else. Excellent coverage. One can use an iPhone on this carrier but without 3G, GSM/EDGE only.. They're also the world's largest mobile carrier with most subscribers, mostly peasants though. Maybe why Apple hasn't bothered making an iPhone which uses China Mobile's unique 3G technology. The iPhone can be an expensive luxury item here.

China Telecom who operate a CDMA/EVDO 3G network. Not sure if this uses the same frequencies as CDMA/EVDO carriers in the USA and elsewhere. Excellent coverage and the best data speeds. They don't offer CDMA/EVDO iPhones.
