Bleh. I think I would rather save the $100 instantly and get the phone when everyone else does. Those rebates are the only thing I absolutely hate about Sprint.

Yup. Me too! That part of Sprint is still stuck in a time warp...LOL. Even my EVP rep told me that he HATES having to deal with the MIR and would prefer if he didn't have to. That's why it'll be Best Buy or Radio Shack for me.
The only thing that would slightly change my mind is if I were able to buy the phone really early compared to Best Buy (by 2 weeks or so). At that point, I might consider EVP...hahahaha.
EVP currently offers an additional $25 MIR on select phones, such as the Hero. If it's offered for the Evo, would you still buy it it at BB?

Yup. I'd rather pay CA tax (which is 9.75 right now) and get an instant rebate. I hate waiting on MIR's. such a PITA.
Now, if the phone is $100 cheaper through EVP (w/ mail in rebate), I'd definitely do that. I'm talking $199 out of my pocket to buy the phone and $100 MIR.
Hmm, is there tax if you order through EVP? Anyone know if theres an activation fee when ordering through BB?
I will buy where/when it's available and at the best overall cost. MIR is a hassle, but that's how Sprint makes additional money if not done properly. BB and other retailers make money by having you in the store and getting you to buy anything else while you're there.
I've heard the experience of applying different plan discounts varies by retailer so that would also come into play.
I won't buy online though because I'll be switching carriers and I want the phone in my hand working right after I purchase rather than checking my mailbox.

I emailed my EVP rep last night and just as I suspected, there's TAX AND SHIPPING FEES with EVP also!...Oh well. They've gotta change the program if they want to actually compete with the stores. Looks like Best Buy or Radio Shack for sure now!

It's been answered before, but not a dumb question (especially if you don't have it). EVP is Employee Value Program. It's a 3rd party company that handles Corporate/Employee Discount purchasing (phones/upgrades/account discount) for people who work with large corporations and have an affiliation with EVP.

If you're switching carriers, definitely not buying online, and don't want to hassle with MIR, I would HIGHLY recommend Best Buy. The last experience I had with Best Buy, the mobile rep there seemed more knowledgable than the ones at the actual Sprint Store!
I wouldn't rule out the Sprint Store completely because I think they've waived the MIR and given instant to "new" customers before. I can't remember because it's been so long that I've been with Sprint, but I'd look into that possibility as well.

I actually found the dedicated Sprint advocate at Best Buy to be more knowledgable than some of the reps I've spoken with at an actual Sprint Store.
