How will you use this device?

I have read a lot about specs, and whether or not 3d is gimmicky, but little regarding how people think the use of this phone will be different than the evo. I have a few questions that I think would lead to a good discussion. Hopefully someone more invested and knowledgeable than me will jump in.

1. How will we get 3d movies on this phone?

2. What about 3d games? Will app developers really create high quality 3d games for this device?

3. What apps do people think could be created to maximize this dual core beast?

I am trying to understand how my phone experience will be better off in real world usability once I buy this phone?

The 3D feature I'm not exited about! I'm more concerned with the Dual core and Adreno 220 for better gaming (not 3d version) and I like the fact that the HDMI or MHL full out! What's on your phone is on the t.v! Sense 3.0 and I'm glad that all these features are in sense 3.0 instead of dividing them up in different devices like in the past

Yeah I am with Sauske on this one. Mostly I am just excited about the extra horsepower under the hood so to speak. I am interested in the ability to take 3d pictures and truly hope that even though we are dealing with less megapixels that the camera itself is better. Same hope for 720/1080p video recording. Less artifacts, better indoor recording, etc. We shall wait and see.

I expect 3D movies will be available via Blockbuster, HTC Watch or even Netflix (hey - they released Duke Nukem Forever, didn't they?).

As for 3D games, I wonder if HTC OnLive might include some?

I'm really just looking forward to the new version of Sense, and lately I've been taking lots of pictures with my 4G and really think the camera button will be nice to have.

Just having Netflix, PERIOD, will probably be enough for me to upgrade.

I too will appreciate the camera button. Crossing my fingers that video recording will be of higher quality. Personally, I am already pretty pleased with the stills capability of my EVO. I wouldn't be bummed to have something even better, but no improvement on stills wouldn't have me crying.

I believe it comes preloaded with Blockbuster mobile and the Youtube 3D app so there's some content there. HTC is going to have a video rental/buying service as well I think (though I could be mistaken on that part)

Hopefully it's affordable. Most of these "pay per view" type services are $6+ per video (recent release), which is just too much, considering it can generally be picked up at a redbox for $1, or at a brick and mortar store for ~$3.

Alright, I know everyone's thinking it, but too scared to type it, so......I will use this to record awesome amateur 3D porno's, I know I can't be the only one....right???

But in all seriousness, I'm very curious to see how the OnLive investment will work. I've tried it on my not-too great laptop with only crappy integrated graphics and I've been able to stream Batman: Arkham Asylum at near Xbox-360 level graphics, which is impressive to say the least.

The great thing is, we could potentially stream games far exceeding even what the Adreno 220 can handle (which is already a beast in itself).

The limitation would be data speeds, given that Sprint's 3G speeds have declined significantly in most areas, I can't imagine this working well, or perhaps even at all over 3G.

Of course, we could rely on WiFi, but it's not always around.

I imagine in a little over a year, OnLive may well have a full service out for HTC phones, plus the Sprint Vision network upgrade + 4G build out could be in motion, leading to increased speeds nationwide and great potential for this service.

Sure! I'd expect games will be pretty quick to support stereo.

The reason is that if you've already got a 3D (non-stereo) game, it's easy to modify to support stereo. Just tweak the in-game camera position slightly and render each frame twice. At worst, you take a framerate hit of 2x (e.g. 60fps to 30fps), but because on autostereoscopic devices the 3D resolution is usually cut in half, expect an even smaller performance penalty. Plus, a powerful GPU should help here.

The only question is how the device itself needs the framebuffers packed to support 3D. With my three minutes of googling, I can't tell if there's a stereo standard and API for Android/OpenGL ES, like there exists on other platforms (like Linux through glX). Looks like ES 1.1 might have added it, in which case, this should be trivial. (It would be worse if devs had to figure out how to pack the framebuffers for each device, though even then, I'd expect it to be simple and for there to be only a few variants.)

I don't care for watching movies on my phone reply but it will be pretty cool to shoot 3d videos and watch YouTube clips in 3D. I really want to experience gaming on the E3D tho

what are the odds of a Nintendo 3DS emulator hitting the market, and some 3DS ROM's? I think that would be cool.

Im mostly interested in the hardware under the 3D screen though, the EVO 3D is simply amazing, with or without 3D. I just hope that other people will see past just the 3D. 3D has potential to be cool, but even without the EVO 3D will be among the top 2 or 3 devices of the year. ahh screw what others think, at least I (and most here) realize this. cant wait to get my hands on this thing.

EDIT: I was at BestBuy the other day and checked out the 3DS. I was thinking, if the EVO looks even close to this, it will be pretty damn good... especially since the EVO 3D will have a bigger screen. I was playing a game where you fly a plane around a city, or something (cant remember the name), and have to admit, I was pretty impressed with how it looked. i think a bigger 4.3in screen would only make it better.

Was going to say the same thing.
