Hows this phone? Any problems?

Looking at buying a Victory on Virgin Mobiles service. Any issues with the phone? Better then an HTC Evo V 4g?

Better is relative ;-) is it a good phone? Yes. Is it worth it? Thats up to you. Its a slightly smaller screen, but its bright and has lte capabilities

Edit...

To add to what i said earlier. Do you like custom roms and such? There really arent any for this device at the time. So that may or may not be a factor.

Because honestly, I can get an evo v for $130 new, whereas the Victory is 229, my cost

That depends. I have both currently. Im actively using the victory since lte is rolling out. The evo is my flashing toy. So you have to ask yourself what you prefer

If LTE is coming anytime soon to your area and you like fast data speeds, then get this phone! :)

The Victory has a smaller resolution camera (5mp compares to 8mp Galaxy S2), a smaller screen.. but I have experienced ZERO issues with this phone. I did have a few MINOR issues with the S2.. such as the phone occasionally not waking from sleep requiring a hard reboot.

Although the Victory and S2 have identical CPU and RAM specs, the Victory does seem quite a bit more "snappy" than the S2.

I don't have much experience with the Evo V as I personally prefer Samsung devices over HTC (easier to root, no s-off required etc etc) but I have heard great things about that phone as well and there are plenty of custom roms for it. There is a bit of development for the S2 right now.. but no Virgin Mobile specific roms for the Victory at this time although I assume you could use some roms for the Sprint's version of the Victory and alter the APN settings to get MMS to work. But honestly, the Victory is fantastic even on stock ROM I am not even itching for a new rom but if a Virgin Mobile specific rom with working visual voicemail became available I would flash it in a heartbeat since I always love trying new roms ;)

I just upgraded to this from the Evo V. The only thing I really miss is CM10.1. The smaller screen doesn't bother me like I thought it would. Battery life is better on the Victory and LTE is awesome. If you don't have LTE I would probably just get the Evo.

Issues i've had with the phone: I had a few random restarts the first few days but that hasn't happened lately.

My biggest complaint is the huge notification menu, and that it reverts from swiftkey to default keyboard when restarted (but that's a swiftkey issue really)

Yes! Battery life. Almost the same as the extended in my S2! Amazing.

You will find that many areas have 4G LTE service (spotty as it may be) that are not officially announced. Sprint is working hard on rapidly expanding their LTE network. Sources at Sprint have said they are expecting to have as much 4G LTE coverage as their 3G coverage by early next year.

I am going to go ahead and pick up the Samsung Galaxy Victory 4G LTE for my birthday on the 23rd because there is unannounced LTE service in my area.

A great way to check if you have LTE coverage in your area is to download the Sensorly app.

Speaking of problems, I've read in another thread here that someone had activation issues when swapping phones. Did any of you guys have the same problem? I have a friend that wants to upgrade from the One V (mainly due to the LTE which is available here and the overall smoothness of this phone), but she uses her phone on a daily basis, so it's important that the phone swap goes without any problems.

I experienced some minor problems activating but it was due to their "system upgrade". Basically I just had to wait two hours for the switch but it was pretty painless. That was a month or so ago so you may not experience that if the account has already been upgraded to the "new system"

Yeah I had to wait a while to swap. I waited overnight and it still wasn't done. I called back and they said they had to activate it manually. It was working a few hours later. Expect to be without a phone for at least a couple hours when switching. Fyi mine was somehow factory reset when they activated it, so you may want to wait until it's activated to start setting it up.

Yeah, it took them..approximately 6-8 hours for it. Then once the phone is ready, it does indeed reset itself back to factory defaults. Other than that...that's the only 'issue' I had. I took a nap and cleaned while I waited ;)

LOL! No biggie. Just take a nap and clean while they swap it. It's quick and simple :D

Maybe your account is upgraded now and you won't have any problems. I'm pretty sure all the problems arose from their system upgrade which has nothing to do with Sprint's Network Vision but has the unfortunate timing of occurring at the same time. :-/
