hows your Battery Life so far....

Here are my stats from today. I would say it was a medium to light day of use -- mostly browsing around and a few emails and texts:

Charged overnight then ran 9 hours 25 minutes down to 3% when I pulled in the driveway from work.

Display 55% 2 hours 45 mins
Voice 15% 8 minutes (!)
Cell Standby 10%
Phone Idle 6%
Android sys 4%
Maps 4%
Broswer 3%
Media Stream 2%

GPS on only for about 5 mins, WiFi off, 4g < 10 mins, screen 10%, apps mostly closed, and used the darker "camping" wall paper today.

I am one of those people who is very disappointed in the battery situation. I am getting a very low battery after about 5 hours of intermittent use - Pandora, surfing, checking out the phone etc. I have tried everything so far, even Juice Defender. I really like the phone except I am now having the, as yet to be confirmed, wifi fail. It is reported over on the Sprint forum that a hard factory reset is needed to fix that so that sucks. This unit is awesome and I am really hoping things get better with Froyo or Evo here I come. I just wish I could take the screen with me.

That is funny that you would give up the Epic for the Evo for battery life. You should research the battery life on n evo. You'd realize why that's so funny.

But the benchmark tests that have been done shows about the same battery performance between the two. I would probably just get some extra batteries instead of switching though but I do like the Evo too.

Mine is pretty awful so far. Just woke up after dropping the battery down to 1% sutting down and fully charging overnight.

Sent 2 txts after powering up. Came to this thread, read the first page and posted.
Display is at 75%
Cell standby is 12%
And at 90% with 23 mins unplugged.

It was worse yesterday had to charge around 2pm. Surprised ppl have such low screen usage percentages. That's what eats up the majority of my battery.

Where do I go to look at my stats for battery usage. Im not even really using my phone and getting 6 or maybe 7 hours. Really doing nothing with apps killed.

Unfortunately... even tho I have an evo the average to subpar battery life is something that we'll probably both have to deal with until batteries catch up with technology. And trust me when I tell you, when folks claim they are getting 2 days, etc out of their battery its because they arent using it.. probably no email accounts, no data etc. It's easy to last that long when the phone is just sitting there.. may as well be in airplane mode.

Go to Settings > About Phone > Battery Use

Then you can click on each separate battery draining process and it'll break it down by hours/minutes.

Just get the spare battery charger with spare battery. Sprint has it. I got it at the same time I got my epic. I have yet to hook my phone up to a charger because of it. Its wonderful. Best $49.99 I have ever spent.

Ok..
Will I be the first to notice this?
My battery life BLOWS. I just looked into things and I am sitting at 50% time without signal. What the hell? The EVO sitting directly next to it has a tws of 0%. Ohh and yes the battery on the evo is hanging in there much beter...

Ok, so one of 4 things is going on. 1) The signal is magically avoiding the epic for the evo (its a conspiracy I tell yah). 2) I have a phone that is trying to use a wrong network like the evo 2.1 bug. 3) A faulty transmitter. 4) The transmitter is this really does suck that bad.

I let it drain all the way to dead yesterday, then charged it fully.
It isn't a good idea to pull down lithium based batteries to zero. You lose your maximum mah. These batteries have no memory affect. The loss of mah (maxium capacity when fully charged) occurs from age, heat and draw downs past 5%. the best way to maintain this battry is to a) avoid high heat (this often can't be done due to designs which can cook batteries using wifi for any length of time); b) avoid draing batter down below to >5%; and if buying a replacement if you can try and get the most recently made.

I am finding side by side the Epic is doing worse than an evo we are also testing for talk, standby, 3g and 4g operations. I attribute that to observable worse signals reception by the Epic. During non signal operrations, for example playback of video with radios off, the Epic in turn does much better, almost certainly due to higher efficiencies in the processor and screen.

I would say most of the shock in battery life people are experiencing is playing with the device functions heavily the first week.

so far am impressed with battery life. I don't use a % meter but i use the shit out of this phone and today had it off charger from 10-6 and only the first lil battery square was missing. it is working for me as of now .. wish my other issue wasnt wht it was but thats a dif thread lol

Sucks.

I left at 100% this morning and it was off for 5 hours, except to send about 5 text messages and check the time occasionally. That's it.

5 hours, I was at 25%. Really sucks. I have this thing called sensorserver_ya part of the culprit, that I'm not able to figure out what it is. But it's really bad all around, and makes the phone almost unusable. If I start using it, it's even worse.

Charging sucks just as bad. It charges on AC power, without use, at 15% per hour. This is pathetic.

I was at about 50% battery after being unplugged for 11hrs. I made a few texts, and a few calls. And a bit of going through apps as well.

I don't know what to do here about the batter life.
I'm at 34% battery and I've hardly used the phone...

Phone's been unplugged for 8hours and 3minutes.
Display is 35% and it's been on for a whopping 39 minutes.
Cell Standby is 35%. It says time without a signal is 50%

Phone Idle is 10%: Time 7h 24m.

What the heck is going on here? Should I go back to Sprint and ask for a replacement? At this rate, I'll never make a full day.

Pretty good actually, it finished charging (98% on meter) at 1:30pm and it's 6:45 now. I used a My Tracks for about 15 minutes, browsed the internet for about 20 minutes, checked Facebook, and watched a movie (hour and a half). It says I'm at 50%, and it was 73% when I started watching.\

Everyday it gets better. The first day was horrible, I was losing 10% an hour and it died overnight on me (was at 40%). Last night it stayed at 26% from when I went to sleep until morning and I'm surprised I only used 23% watching the movie.

Ok I got the phone Wednesday and battery life was terrible!!!!!! I was reading these post with guys saying"yea Im using my phone normally for 16hrs and have 30%left" I didnt believe a word of it I thought theres no way I was just letting my phone sit by the computer at work afraid to touch it cause it might drain the battery. I was using an app killer, turned the screen down whatever. My phone was on the charger at 3pm and I hadnt even used it, barely touched it!!! I was ready to throw it away! WHat a joke a phone that dies in six hours with 20 minutes use!
Then I read a few post that it gets better after a few days, so I waited and waited fully charging the phone each night, no luck as of Friday. Then some sort of miracle happened. Saturday morning came and off I go with the phone at 8.30am I use the phone normally all day sending and receiving texts, playing games, checking new apps out, downloading new stuff etc, and low and behold my battery is awesome! Ive been off charge for 13 hours and have 42% left!!!!! What is going on? I have no idea but lets hope it continues I will update next week!!!

I'm really disappointed by the EPIC's battery life. I want to love the phone, I really do, but it's battery life is just unacceptable. I just switched from an iPhone 3G. That would last me a day and a half with some Pandora, and occasional 15 minute browser sessions. The EPIC is lasting me 10 hours if I'm lucky (with 4G off).

I haven't been keeping an eagle eye on the usage, but it's usually display (which probably indicates I've been playing with it a lot), but there was a day when I turned off background data, sync, lowered the display brightness and tried to leave it alone. The display wasn't the main culprit of the battery drain, and it still lasted only about 12 hours.

I let it fully drain once, and charged it fully while on. I'm trying another full charge (after a full drain) tonight, this time keeping it off 100% of the time until the indicator is green while I'm sleeping. If it doesn't improve within the trial period I'm going to have to return this otherwise awesome phone :(

Needless to say I'll be keeping an eye on this thread.

Okay, I hope this post helps some people, especially those who think they have a defective phone. Chances are you don't. 1 simple fact, battery life on all new Super Android Phone suck. Battery life of 4-5 hrs is typical. Also it is hard to guage battery life, because we all use phones different. One person may claim to be a light user, but they may infact be a heavy user, another person may claim to be a heavy user, while they truely use the battery lightly.

Another fact, for some of you this is your first smartphone, you may think your phone is defective because it is not lasting 2 days on a charge. I'm here to tell you now, it won't, so just accept that, and no matter how many times you exchange your phone, it's going to be the same. This is a 4inch Super Amoled display, 1Ghz processor, and fastest GPU available, of course it will require juice.

Myth...the Super Amoled is very energy efficent. Actually no its not, it uses a lot of battery to display anything other than black.

Here is a comparison of batteries on different phones. Expect about 4-5hrs on the Epic. Please visit the link below:

Trust me, no matter how strongly you believe your unit is defective, and no matter how many exchanges you do, these phones are battery hogs. Every one will be the same.

More facts...even when you don't use your phone, the battery drains.
More facts...the battery will appear to jump in big increments, for example from 60 to suddenly 20.
This is normal, sucks but normal. Maybe the algorithm needs to be modified.

So what can you do to improve battery life.
Here are some suggestions. The following are only if you absolutely need maximum battery life, basically I'm going to tell you to turn everything off. Now a disclaimer, because I know some smart @ss is going to say "why did I buy this phone if I have to turn all that off." My answer is, then go return your phone and buy a phone with a small screen and slow processor, otherwise suck it up, carry a charger or spare battery and follow the below steps when you want to extend battery life.

Okay First: Turn off live wallpapers, run a pure black image file as your background. The phone will use less battery to display black. Trust me this helps a lot.

Turn off all syncs that are not needed, I only leave on gmail mail sync. Everything else like weather and news is off.

Turn wifi OFF, Turn Bluetooth OFF, don't use GPS

Haptic feedback, turn that off.

Vibrate turn that off.

The clicking noise the phone makes when you tap stuff, turn that off.

On the vibrant, we can turn off 3G and set it to 2G only, if the Epic permits this, then turn 3G off. Again, before some smart person screams at me, these suggestions are if you need maximum battery life, to recieve and make voice calls.

In both the main settings and web browser settings put the screen brightness to the lowest possible.

This last suggestion is controversal, because some people claim it works, others say its a gimmick. The suggestion is to use advanced task killer. Before you call me an idiot, and tell me ATK is not required on android, I'm just merely suggesting it for people who want to test it out. If it works great keep it, if not delete it. Watch someone is going to say something about advanced task killer and how i'm stupid for suggesting it.

AGAIN, BEFORE SOMEONE SCREAMS at me saying i'm telling you to handicap your phone with everything off, i'm merly providing a suggestion for people who in certain cases need maximum battery life.

Someone is going to still disregard my disclaimer and scream at me about my suggestions, but okay. Hope you find these helpful.

Closing thoughts. You also need to keep in mind, your phone is brand new, meaning you are excited, full of joy, and you probably can't keep your hands off of it. Many of you probably haven't put the phone down once since you got it. This is not normal use, you are using it more than usual. As the weeks go by, and you are over your "wow my cool new phone" phase, you won't be using it every second of every moment, and you will notice the battery will appear to last longer.

EDIT:
If you own an iPhone, or owned one in the past, and battery life is important to you, keep the iPhone, because Super Android phones will not get the battery life that iPhone provides and you will cry and complain all day about your new Android device. Then Steve Jobs will wipe your tears away, tell you "don't hold your phone like that" and will make you throw an ugly bumper on it, and you will comply with pleasure as God gives you commands.

SamsungVibrant. Ia agree and disasgree with you. Yes these are powerful phones that will consume lots of power. but...

1) my iPhone 3G used 3G all day long, and clicked every time I typed. It still lasted 2 days even after over a year of us.
2) my epic, charged fully, with 4g, gps, etc disabled, lost over 30% battery while i slept. That's without the display ever being turned on

Someting is wrong there.

Oh yeah. For frame of reference (I know this is a bad comparison). My iPad can sit idle for days and maintain >90%. And despite a nearly 10" display and 1ghz processor, it can last for days of use browsing the web and emailing.
