Get inception that movie was awesome wait til you see the van scene lol

just got a ps3 a week ago, so far i have inception, toy story 12&3, dispicable me, gromn ups, alice in wonderland, avatar, and antoher animated movie but i cant remember which one. I plan on buying 300, matrix 1, and the underworld trilogy.

I've got about 35 or so...used to have a lot more but I sold the ones I never watch. Now I just have my classic/favorite movies or movies that are top demo quality movies. Avatar is by far the best video/audio demo disc that exists for blu-ray right now, even better than Pixar films.

I have like 5. I am kinda hesitant to buy movies tho... I just download them. I am scared there will be another conversion in a few years.

I won't be purchasing any BR's. At least not until DVD completely dies out and even then I still might not even purchase any.

Its gonna be about 10 years or so before anyone takes down blu ray the technology was so far ahead of its time. You remember HD dvd it didnt last long blu ray scooped it up real quick. I dont think blu ray is goin anywhere for a while

i have probably 20 or so right now. if your looking for a good movie to really see the detail, my recommendation would be avatar. i didnt really like the movie all that much, but there is no denying that the visuals are down right amazing. im actually more into the audio than anything. listening to a movie with explosions and huge gun fights (my personal favorite is Shoot em up) in 7.1 surround sound is freaking crazy

Correct me if I am wrong, as I did not follow the battle so closely; But I was under impression Blu-ray was in almost no way technically superior to HD-DVD. It simply won out due to corporate and porn backing blu-ray over HD-DVD.

And since blu-ray is still relatively expensive, what would stop those big corporations and porn from ditching it for a cheaper form of tech in a few years?

Is blu-ray even catching on in a major way? Especially with streaming/on demand video being widespread now. I mean, ya blu-ray its really nice, but it just seems that it is not making the strides necessary to stick around as the norm.

the more i think about it, i watch movies for meaning... not color and picture. yeah its somewhat important, but i have 0 blu-rays and plan on buying 0.

there are about 5 movies that i could watch more than twice, so to me its a complete waste of money!!

64 and counting. I think Transformers 2, Avatar and Speed Racer look pretty sweet in Blu-Ray as well the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. I'm looking forward to getting Tron Legacy on Blu-Ray. Most of the Blu-Ray movies that I own were purchased for $15 or less. You have to love Amazon.

I can't really get in to watching downloaded movies on one of my TV's. I would rather have a Blu-Ray player. The PS3 is in the living room with the 52" Samsung LCD and I have a Sony player in the bedroom with a wall mounted 46" Samsung.

Blu-Ray players and movies are not expensive. You can get players that stream Netflix as well for under $100 and the movies are on sale all the time.

If you look at the numbers for Blu-Ray adoption versus DVD adoption it is actually performing better. It wasn't like DVD took over VHS overnight.

just got a hd tv, still use dvd player, rip dvd from redbox rented for 1 dollar with dvdfab and watch on dvd player. im cheap and dont care.

Nothing wrong with that. I have Netflix and burn a lot of comedies and other movies I don't think are necessary to own on Blu-Ray.

DVDFAB FTW! :D

Nah, you got that from Tropic Thunder. :D Well, that might be partly true but it was still a funny part. Anyway, Blu-ray disc capacity is 50GB where HD-DVD was 25GB. While being almost identical in video quality, only Blu-ray could contain the master audio tracks like DTS-MA and Dolby TrueHD direct from the studio. So although they may have help from certain companies like Sony making more deals than Microsoft to promote the format, the technically superior format still won.

This is also why blu-ray is better than streaming or on-demand because those formats can't compete with the audio and probably can't compete with the picture quality at this point either. Whether or not that's worth it for the average consumer is debatable - I prefer blu-ray when possible but still watch DVD or download certain movies. Look at the rise of sh*tty mp3s over hi-def formats like CDs, Super Audio CDs, and Blu-ray Audio. When given the choice the average consumer will choose low cost and low quality over higher cost and higher quality. So Blu-ray may go the way of the niche market unfortunately.

It's really not THAT expensive anymore when you look at it either. Blu-ray players can be found for under $100 and I think I've only bought one or two discs over $20. I usually get them around $10-$15. That's comparable or cheaper to DVDs in the same timeframe when it was a new format.
