[HOWTO] Tether natively

This worked for me until the last OTA update. I have windows 7 and it connects to the network but doesn't have internet access. Wah.
 
Did all the steps and can't figure out how to make a DUN connection doing the #777 thing but the wireless hotspot works like a champ. No 3g hotspot sign up page pops up and the internet is working great.
 
Went through the menu and changed the settings, but i get a screen that says "you need the 3g mobile hotspot feature from verizon on this phone to use this feature" and there is an "OK" button at the bottom. IS this normal? Do we hit "OK"? Or did i miss something? I rechecked the DUN NAI settings, and they seem to be right.

Its just a standardized pop up i believe

i just hit ok and everything works for me

just opened up the hotspot app and was in business :)
 
Just tried it and i think it worked. Am i correct in thinking that as long as i don't get redirected to a VZW screen when i open up a browser, then all is good?
 
I dial ##778 and no dialong box or anything of the sort comes up. Am I missing a key step or what?

EDIT: Got it, had to turn call confirm off.

I'm stupid sometimes, but not that stupid. When I press ##778, and hit the green button labeled SEND, I get ABSOLUTELY NOTHING other than a vibration confirming I hit the send button. Any ideas past that?

I am not rooted, running the latest update from Verizon, Android 2.2. I can give you the versions if you need them.

i wasnt implying that you are stupid. i know it works on non-rooted devices as i just did it on my bosses phone friday... so im not sure why it isnt working on yours.

Remove the last update to the "My Verizon" app, restart the phone and try again. It seem the last update to the app removes the ability to do this.
 
I tried to connect to gmail (secure site) and got the verizon splash page. Other websites are working fine.

Anyone else having trouble connecting to secure sites using the hotspot hack?

ill have to try and get back to you.

edit. im logged in right now to my gmail via wireless tethering..... no problems whatsoever.

it appears that a recent update changed my settings back to default. I ran the hack again and it works perfectly.
 
yes i did this on my incredible and it works perfect so i get alot faster internet on home devices have been 80 dollars a month for sucky satelite internet.
 
I also get no connection when dialing the ##778 how do I uninstall the last verizon update. I checked out in forum but I guess my search terms were not the best as I did not find anything. Thanks

Good question. I have a new Dinc being delivered tomorrow and I am interested in this mod. I assume the phone will have the latest updates.
 
I am able to dial ##778 and a window pops up showing view mode and edit mode. When I select Edit, it asks for a password.
Any thoughts on what the password could be?

LOL...let us know if it worked. I will be trying on a new phone this weekend.
