HTC Aria on June 7th?

I am right along with those questioning the date. Why would AT&T want to try and take anything away from the cash cow they have.

I agree with t-readyroc in that the iPhone is heading to Verizon so it's kind of like a "Ha! We don't need you!" type thing from AT&T to Apple. Try to launch more Android phones to compensate for their lack of iPhone exclusivity.

I highly doubt that, since there are local area companies that have released more androids than AT&T. I think it's more along the lines of they are appeasing Apple by slowboating android, or trying to make more money by crippling the phones or any other myriad of other reasons, but I believe I can say with assurance that AT&T is NOT trying to launch a ton of Android phones for any reason whatsoever.

If Verizon gets an iPhone then why would they need to appease Apple? At that point they no longer have exclusivity and they'd have to realize that a lack of other capable smart phones would only cause them to seriously lose business.

I dunno if the whole VZW iPhone speculation's true or not, or whether I quite believe in it; I was just pointing out that the speculation was already out there in comments beneath several of the other stories covering this rumor.

Be cool if it were true, though ;)

I think the samething that if apple has an announcement that AT&T already knows about. But if the phone is the one shown in the FCC filing it does not seem to fit the bill as a good android phone. That screen looks small to me. My guess would be 3.2 and I do not want anything smaller than a 3.7. Granted they have said it will have a snapdragon processor in the rumor so that is good.

Given the majority of their smartphone users are iPhone users and will probably be too busy watching the announcement to see the new smartphones AT&T is launching, that would be the perfect day for them to launch it lol.

Maybe the Aero and Xperia X10 comes in that day as well lol.

Apple and AT&T are close enough that I am sure Stevie would detect a disturbance in the phone universe.

They updated the original story to say something about the N1, but it's available again as of this writing... at least it is for me anyhow..

Unless Stevie doesn't even care.

As long as he is selling his phones exclusively with AT&T he cares. He knows android is a threat to his phone dominance. And I think I am one of very few people that right now think that the AT&T deals helps Apple right now. Since AT&T sells so many iphones he does have some control in how they work. And keeping good android phones away from the second largest mobile company in the US is a very strong thing. Consider that the latest reports from last quarter showed android outselling Apple and that was without the AT&T market. I know it is just a matter of time until the samething that killed apple in the PC war will happen in the handset war. I just wish being with AT&T I had options right now.

Anyone else notice how this thing's progressed?

  1. original story over at phonedog lists nothing but Eclair & Sense (no QWERTY)
  2. maerlim connected the dots to his thread discussing his conversation w/a local rep regarding "an upgraded Tilt with Android" (1st mention of QWERTY)
  3. androidandme says, hey, what about that HTC PC70110? (1st possible linkage)
  4. which brings us to yesterday, where phonearena unilaterally declared that the PC70110 has been "christened the HTC Aria"
And since yesterday, the photos of the PC70110 are the only ones being associated with the device in the tech blogosphere. The problem is that the whole thing's based on rumor & speculation. What scares me most is that the QWERTY bit is incorrect, & we're going to end up with the Wildfire/Buzz; something much more aligned with AT&T's previous hardware choices...

Well, it may actually be the QWERTY slider. As lordmaxx said it could be an updated Lancaster to better compete with what's currently out there. The Lancaster was shown in an AT&T presentation so the Aria and PC70110 may just be 1 and the same.

Same, that's actually what I was thinking. Maybe the MSM7227 with 512MB RAM. I could handle that. Now let's just see it happen...

I can't speak for everyone, but I don't think I'll shoot the messenger. Though only time will tell...

Like I said, unless stevie doesn't care. Most people that buy Android devices right now do so because it is the best smartphone platform on their carrier. I am willing to bet that many of those people would buy iPhones given the chance.

Nice find! Sweet jeebus. So much for the QWERTY, but a Snappy & Desire-like device will certainly make up for it... Wow...

Considering the Desire ROM works on the Nexus One I don't think it'd be much of a stretch to easily drop Sense on the Nexus One officially.
