HTC Aria on June 7th?

Looks like the first couple weeks of June will be chock full of device announcements from multiple carriers. Everybody's trying to rain on Apple's parade. ;)

June 7th announcement. Now lets hope turn around to put onto market is still in the month of June! If it's a true desire clone or something close to it, it will be hard to hold out till the end of the year for a Galaxy S which is what I feel like doing at this point.

Considering the Desire ROM works on the Nexus One I don't think it'd be much of a stretch to easily drop Sense on the Nexus One officially.

Nah. The Nexus One is Google's phone to display stock Android. It would more likely be a Desire that would release on AT&T, but that's still very unlikely. I would say it's more likely that it's the slider that passed through the FCC. That's unfortunate since that thing is fugly.

well, there is a market for a good android slider, but I'd like to see AT&T get a nice slate like the galaxy s or one of the nexus one lookalikes.

The Vision fits that mold. And sadly I think Verizon will get another slider from Moto in the 2 due to drop in July.

EXCLUSIVE: First Look at HTC Aria? | AndroidGuys

If this is it, I won't be able to use it. I have very large hands. Why would HTC create a device that is unusable by anyone without small hands?

That would be just about the final insult to me. If this is the phone I will be giving up on AT&T after 15 years. I started with Pac Bell but this to me would just show me they are still 100% behind apple and the iphone. If you want anything else go elsewhere is what that would say to me.

ick....that doesnt sound good at all...guess this is AT&T's way of giving love to Mr Jobs. Releasing their 'exclusive' HTC phone as a piece of junk from a year ago. If this is true...guess we'll know soon enough. sigh.....

If that tiny piece of shit is all that is announced within the next two weeks, I just think I am going to get the Moto Milestone. The only reason I haven't done so yet is because June is poised to be a huge time for phone announcements. With this device though, I don't think att will be a part of those announcements.

I have been waiting on att for a decent android phone as long as everyone else has, but I think that AT&T releasing such a bad device in the HTC Aria after such a long wait, is pretty much proof that they have no interest in the Android market, at least until they get their 4g network up and running. Bolded for emphasis. The wait is over for AT&T to release a good android phone. It isn't coming. And I'd be pleased to be proven otherwise.

OT: Thanks to whoever it was that suggested the penny palm pre from amazon strategy. Worked out pretty damn good.

Depressed AT&T customer + $0.01 Amazon Palm + Ebay - Palm ($500) + Motorola Milestone/Nexus One = Happy AT&T Customer

Well, this just makes me feel better about leaving ATT for the new EVO after 10 years as an ATT customer. It's just a shame that a company I've been so loyal to for a decade has completely ignored the call made by many of its customers for an Android device that competes. Even if the i897 (Galaxy S) does end up at ATT, I will fear that by then it will have been too late as many, like me, will have already jumped ship. Not to mention they will probably lock down Android OS like they did with the Backflip anyway.

it says it is $50 on amazon :(

What is, the Aria? I just did a quick look & didn't find anything...

As far as these new spy photos go, I guess we can only hope that this isn't the actual unit we're going to get. With our luck, though, I'm guessing it is. With a ~2.8" screen, chances are that thing's not packin' a Snapdragon, either. *sigh*

Hmmmm... front page article says that it's thick enough to have a slide-out QWERTY? I was trying to see that from the photos, but couldn't really tell for sure... Looks pretty thin to me, though...

Having a QWERTY may change my opinion on this thing...

It seems I will be the only one not disappointed by the Aria if AndroidGuys are right. Being that I have a Samsung Eternity I'm used to a smaller screen. Actually having just compared my phone to a business card I'd guess the Aria has a 3.5" screen. The Eternity has a 3.2" screen and looks to be smaller than the Aria(maybe not though). Anyway... As long as it comes with a decent processor I'll be happy.

Yeah I may end up going for the Galaxy-S, as long as the rumors of AT&T's version having a Snapdragon instead of Hummingbird are false. I'm just going to have to reserve all judgement until actual phones exist that I can touch with my grubby hands.

Nice! Maybe I'll just get the successor to my phone... you know, keep it in the family!

Edit: Oh... umm /sarcasm

A certain 4.3" android based cellphone has recently changed my standards after playing around with it.

I always thought I would hate a full touch screen device.. however in landscape mode.. it is easier to type on than a qwerty keyboard!'

I know some people are gunna wanna stick to qwerty no matter what.. but, I would rather at&t get a good touch screen phone like the upcoming evo..

But, at&t wouldn't dream of offering that kind of device.

I read that it will have a 3" display. If it is 3.5" that is fine, my current phone is 3.5" and I do not consider it small by any standard.

There's a story linked in the "Goodbye unlimited data" thread. The story says new data plans are launching on June 7th. Perhaps this is all coinciding at the same event.

Samsung are the ones who actually make the Hummingbird processor. they would not hamstring any phone they made by putting a competitors chip in it. (they're not stupid like AT&T) :)

Actually... that's not true. The Samsung Eternity uses a Qualcomm chip. I actually pulled a dead one apart and verified it.
