Help HTC Desire - Advice

Hey - new to Android phones so need a little help. My HTC Desire connects ok to the home wifi but doesn't keep the connection. Says it's a full wifi strenght but won't load web pages. To make it work I need to disconnect and then start it up again. Is this normal or is there a sneaky way to keep on line. My partner has just got a i-phone and doesn't seem to have the same problem
 
It loads webpages fine. It's just when I've not been using the web for a while it seems to lose the connection
