HTC Desire and Android 2.2?

I think my HTC Desire came with Android 2.1. How do I manually update to Android 2.2? Is Android 2.2 the newest operating system for Android on the HTC Desire?

And I don't know how to check which Android OS I have. How do I do that? I only am guessing that I have 2.1 because that is the description when I bought the phone at the store. And I have had no updates for Android pop up on my phone. Thanks!

When I go to Settings, and About phone, I click on the Software information. Then the Firmware version says "2.1 - update1." Is the Firmware the Android OS? There is nothing that says "Android Version." I have a HTC Desire, if that helps.

can you give us the all the info from software information
also boot to hboot (voldown+power) and tell us all the info it says on the top part of the screen

thanks

I just looked at other forums in doing some research and it seems that the Android 2.2 has not been released for HTC Desire yet from US Cellular. So I guess disregard this message! Sorry for all the hassle and I am very grateful for all your responses (and Jammy, your very PROMPT responses!!)! :)

Will giving out this information allow someone to hack my phone and access personal information?

That doesn't seem like a very logical question to ask the very same person who is asking you for the information. I liken that to a stranger asking you for your credit card number over the phone in order to "help" you. If he wanted the number for nefarious purposes and you asked him that question, do you expect an honest answer?

Not that this reply helps you on a technical level, but it is worth considering for all of your dealings with any kind of personal information. It's worth thinking before asking.

I suppose I should have clarified - I didn't expect Rastaman-FB to hack into my account or something. But I also wasn't sure if I should post that information for all to see in this public thread or if I should have tried sending a private message. And it was just a question. No need to be patronizing. Thank you, though.
