Well the experience so far with my Case Mate 'Barely There' has been very good so far, the plastic is of good quality and the rubberised back feels excellent to hold.
Blast!! :)
Wish I'd known about this before getting a couple of rather tubby silicone skins made by Amazer...

It surprises me that so many people go for these back only covers. When you drop your phone or it takes a knock the most likely part that will get damaged is the screen, which will cost well over

First post here guys and girls!

Still waiting for my HTC Desire... Eagerly. The reason I posted here is to ask if anyone has experience with these two, silicone case and screenshield, which I just bought though:

invisibleSHIELD for the HTC Desire - SCREEN SHIELD - eBay (item 180518380642 end time Jun-16-10 08:15:22 PDT)

Quality Silicon Skin Case Cover For HTC Desire - eBay (item 300430948542 end time Jun-24-10 00:48:54 PDT)

Do they fit in well and are they worth of my money?

Kepti

Hi Kepti,

I get the Zagg invisibleshield screen protectors for all my devices and have never had a problem they are easy to apply, dont peel off and are very good at stopping scratches. they are definatly worth the money imo. btw you can get them from their site http://www.zagg.com/invisibleshield/htc-desire-cases-screen-protectors-covers-skins-shields.php either screen or full covers

Can't comment on the gel case im afraid

Seems like it should protect the phone quite nicely. It'll arrive in a couple of weeks.

Anyone know what the best screen protector is to stop dust getting under the screen? Spotted a speck a couple of days ago and then another this afternoon. In the time it's taken me to get home there's been another 3 more, 1 being pretty obvious. I'm guessing it's getting in at the edges of the screen where there's a little gap so I need a screen protector that goes beyond the edge.

2 months with no dust to 5 specks in a couple of days and I do daily checks to make sure there's no dust in the gap at the edge to stop it getting undernneath :(

(any way of getting the dust out as well?)

I thought the screen was sealed, so it was probably there to begin with, and you have only now started noticing it. (Coming from someone who doesn't own a desire yet.)

Definitely wasn't there, I inspect it daily for dust (i'm paranoid about dust under screens) and 1 I found today is very noticable with the screen off, don't even have to look closely for it...if it was there from manufacturing it must've been at the edge out of sight and got knocked further in.

Unless you are extremely unlucky, most of the time the phone will land on a corner or edge, never flat on the floor screen down, and even if it did do this the screen probably wouldn't touch the floor because the edge of the gel cases raise above the screen and so stops the screen touching a surface while faced down.

After the initial bounce off a corner I doubt the screen would get much damage as long as you have a screen protector on, unless as I say you are extremely unlucky and the phone drops directly onto something that is sticking up from the floor directly onto the screen!

Hmm, what you're saying does make a lot of sense, however I am always hearing about people with cracked iphone screens, so it must happen still, and I am quite unlucky so I tend to play it safe with cases hehe! :p

Cheers, mate. I think I'll have to fit it tomorrow before going out on the razzle for the football!

Was it easy enough to fit? How long did it last?

Took me about 10 attempts and hour to fit the first one as I kept getting dust under the screen just as I applied it! It must of lasted about a month with a few removals and refits of it in that time.

This second one went of first time, but as with the first one I'm finding that where it is slighty fixed off center the edge of the gel case has lifted the edge of the protector up in places on one side. So I feel they could do with being a couple of mm smaller across their width to be perfect.

I think you'll find that most of the cracked screen problems are because of people putting the phone in their pocket and then sitting on them, glass doesn't bend to well!. I'm not saying it can't break from dropping it but I suspect this is pretty rare.

I do prefer the look of leather cases, but practicality wise I don't think you can get much better than the gel cases IMO, and with my luck of dropping things the protection has to come first!

Fitting a screen protector is bloody hard work!

I spent ages ensuring that my phone's screen was dust free, only for the protector to have hairs stuck to it!

How do you wash and dry them? Are they two-sided? I may have another go later.

I have bought the official HTC black leather case with the pull tab for easy removal and it fits perfectly and is very slim so doesn't add any bulk to my pocket, plus it only cost about

Wash it under a cold tap, using your fingers to remove any hair/dust.

Shake off most of the water, but still leaving it wet.

Lay the screen protector down starting at the bottom working your way to the top.

Wipe off any water with some tissue.

Then using a credit card or similar, squeegee the remaining water and air bubbles from under the screen. Mopping up any water as you go.
