Root HTC Desire Guide Site - Updated [18/06]

Looks good m8,i will bookmark it and i am sure it will be very useful.

p.s it is patience not patients and bored not board sorry :P

while i agree its good to be centralised I didnt do this myself for a few reasons.

There are other standalone sites that offer a similar thing and when someone new comes here messing up their device they are like "I used the guide" turns out it wasnt our one.

It removes the thanks side of things on the website and the while youve credited the authors its not showing the credit the authors have given to some of the people that sourced that information.

Most of the guides here are now in 1 place and SUroot, hadron, Usta have just spent ages tidying it up and categorising it better for people to use.

It takes people away from AF, id rather people stay here and post and ask questions as that is essentially what built this community.

its just my opinion but i just feel its not needed

I think we have a perfectly good forum already and I haven't and wont be visiting the site unless it offers me more than I already get here.

This post is basically SPAM? My advice to you CT is to put a link to it in your cigi and keep quiet about it. ;)

I just woke up!

Rasta, I was thinking the same as you but I don't think I would have been able to write such a thoughtful and tactfully written post.

Thanks button getting some love.

a little harsh lol

i wouldnt call it spam, hes blatently put a lot of time and effort into creating the site and wants to share it with the people he is familiar with. I certainly cannot blame him for that.
at one point I was thinking of doing a similar thing but then i weighed up the pros and cons of doing it and figured its not really a good move.
All it really does is replicates something that is already present and moves it somewhere else. this leads to more work for the site creator and it still doesnt answer the weird and wonderfull questions we get.
At least when its here they can post on the same thread and mark the area they are stuck on or broke their device so we can all chip in a trouble shoot it.

I dont ever want to put down someones hard work. i was just highlighting a few issues i have with it

Harsh maybe, and point taken about the hard work, I haven't visited the site.

It's still pissing on other people's patches though.

He has given full credits and links mind. But yeah, problem is if I update a guide, what mechanism is used to ensure the site is up to date?

Ooooooh my final word; The drop box for instance compliments AF and is a useful tool for everybody that wants to use it. It does not compete or seek to take members with it.

If it wasn't rainin' so bad I'd get the swingball out.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

well yes as its just a file host and a central location for people to obtain them.
we cannot host on AF so its better however were going to mirror them as well as basically the drop box has more interest than anticipated

Lol far out. Spam my ass, I don't see any adds on it except for links about XDA and Android Forums. I spent 3 days doing that to help people out. Some people have trouble reading through forums to find guides. If you don't like it don't use it... I was board and thought it would be a good idea. I don't know what everyone's crying about like its a political debate lol

I think it's a good idea. It complements the forum like a better looking and better laid out version of the stickies. Although the new stickies are pretty well organised these days and it's easier to find what you're looking for than before.

calm down, only one person called it spam

however its a forum, people talk and we talking about it

I think it is good hard work done by CdTDroiD, and we all should appreciate his hard work. :)

I look at it as another website full of information, just like XDA. CdTDroiD is an active member here, so he should take care of updating/syncing the info in his site with the info available here. I like especially his collection of ROM video Reviews.

Rasta's word of caution are also in order. It is confusing to have the info decentralized, and the risk of the info being outdated is also high.

As long as we take these points into account, we are good to go.

Thats pretty much what i thought. i didn't build it to just leave it to get old, i wouldn't have gone through the effort to make it otherwise. I think some people dont know what it takes to make a site maybe.

LOL...

Quick question as we are talking about keeping it up to date, if i subscribe to a thread will it still email me if the creator is just modifying it or only for new posts?
