HTC Desire Locked

I have a HTC Desire and its locked. It locked in my pocket by the pattern being guessed to many times. It asks for my Google mail details which I do not have as its been a year since I made the account. I can also not recover it because I do not know what email I registered it with. I contacted Vodafone they tried to help but failed, they then told me to contact HTC. They told me to reset the phone using the volume buttons and power button, but I would lose everything. My final attempt would be to contact Google but I can't find anyway of doing that. Is there anyway to gain access again? I know my pattern its only the number 7, but I cant try it again. If this happens with my PIN it asks for a PUK Code, can I not enter this somehow?

something doesnt add up here, how has it tried to guess the password too many times in your pocket when it would 1. require you to hit the power button each time to wake it?
2. it requires touches with something that conducts electric energy from flesh to the screen and also would have to conveniently click ok.

googles version of the puk code is to email your google account. you are a bit daft if you cannot remember what account you used. when you create a google account it asks you for a contact email if you lose your google account so use that.

the only alternative is wiping the device, this is for security reasons. you wouldnt like it if someone could access all your private info if they "found" your phone would you?

no way around it

What he said^.

If you are logged in on your google account at home, you could access the market and download an application that unlocks your phone. But if you don't have your google account info, and cant recover it, you are SOL until you wipe the phone.
