HTC Desire minuses (not mentioned in tests)

*Shivers*... Amen.

Symbian is dire.

The problem is that Nokia has become Microsoft, in that they're sitting on crappy phones and a crappy platform that's had it's day, but because they're such a massive dominant company they don't need actually make a decent phone or decent OS; the crap ones still sell by the millions reguardless.

That said, even Microsoft's upped it's game recently.

Agreed, that new Nokia (N8?) looks interesting but I have yet to get excited about anything they have churned out.

Winmo7 could be interesting, like to see if they have really moved forwards.

The N800 runs Meamo which is a little better than Symbian, but I used one in the Carphone Warehouse the other day and it's really nothing special at all, pretty much a stretched N97.

Windows Phone 7 is interesting, though IMO the Kins will flop.

Read up on the Kin One tonight, not impressed, not for me at all. But I like the idea of the tiled home screen etc. Guess we'll wait and and see.

The only valid issue I see on the list is the battery issue. My battery didn't work great right out of the box either, mostly because I couldn't put the damn phone down. :)

My wife commented that I had grown another appendage. Anyhow the battery life has gotten better, it has improved over time. With me tinkering less and the battery getting more full charges etc, it easily lasts me a whole day of my normal use.

"Normal" use will vary from person to person, and it's totally subjective. ;)

As for the rest of your issues, I would suggest looking to the market and seeing what you can find. New apps are popping up every day.

Opera MINI is still in beta, it's not going to work perfect for ages.

Both my two real niggles are already mentioned - having to press "power" then "menu" (or swipe) instead of my old Hero which would unlock with a double press of "menu", and the awful, awful trackpad. Other than that....it's damn good!

power - menu, unlocks your device.

I wanted to use mine to hammer in nails but seemingly the case isn't strong enough:eek:.

I have emailed HTC to complain because I feel that it should have been clear before I bought the phone that I couldn't use it as a hammer.

Theres an app coming out to do that apparantly :D

-- News feed does not rotate, no pinch/magnify

Waaay better news apps in the market, leave the HTC one alone :p

-- the only available divx player Xyflash not working, crashes on every command

Supposedly coming in 2.2

-- no pinch/magnify in Opera Mini 5 beta

eww, use a good browser like the default one, or Dolphin HD

For most of the rest, I'm still adamant that if you need to connect your phone to your PC to sync, your using it wrong :p
