Help HTC Desire Qiestion

I switched from Blackberry first off. I was uneasy bit very very glad I made the switch.

HOWEVER

One thing I hate is that the OS 2.1 only allows apps from the market to download to the phone.........right? If not can someone teach me to have them downloaded to the SD card?

I was told this cannot happen. Which brings me to my main question, when will OS 2.2 (Froyo) be available for the HTC Desire?

I keep getting mixed messages when I Google my question.

Thoughts?

The o2 update has been released and pulled a couple of times at least. Not sure of the current state of it personally.

There is another way if you have searched via your phone settings menu and not found the update. You could debrand your phone. There are a few threads on here about debranding or ubranding

In America, we don't know when your carrier will release the update (US Cellular?), if you want to get it sooner then you can root your phone.
