Root HTC Desire stuck on boot up, don't know what to do. HELP please

Hy
I'm pretty new to rooting and have pretty much dumb questions but I rooted my htc desire last night and i downloaded the rom manager. So i saw something I liked, it was a rom that would put the percentage of how much battery life I would have left on my power bar in the notification bar and it installed but the rom manager asked something-1. Should I wipe...- I put no
2. should I keep the old rom- I put yes
Now when it starts up it gets stuck on the HTC white startup screen but as of few hours ago it goes a little bit forward and goes to a black screen and does this ''clicking'' sound. I rooted my phone with the unrEVOked3. So as you can see I'm in a bit of a jam here. I would like to know if I can fix this by myself, and can I do something in recovery mode or something else and I don't have goldcard.
Cheers

My phone starts up ad when the screen where it says HTC Quietly brilliant it doesn't say that but just goes to a black screen and i can get to recovery mode and all but I don't have a slightest clue on what to do.

Like I said in the duplicate thread you posted,

If you root using unrevoked, you get a bootloop after your first ever back up. Restore the back up and see what happens.

ok
download a new rom like teppics rooted stock rom from xda developers (or any rom of choice as long as its relatively new)

boot into the proper recovery via "voldown+power"
use volume rocker to select recovery and press power
when clockwork has loaded, click wipe data/factory reset
when completed click on apply sip from sdcard, find the rom and install it.
reboot and happy days

word of warning:
do not flash new roms over the top of others, this will always result in this and so you should wipe.
the only time you can really flash a rom over the top is if its from the same build or rom developer even then you can get weird issues.

make a backup before you flash any rom for this eventuality (backup and restore option in clock work)be aware after your first backup your device will bootloop, restore that backup and it will be fixed again

i dont think he backed up, he installed a rom without wiping first

Do you know, I think I'm with you on that one. Since everyone now flashes recovery with unrevoked it is literally providing a GUI whilst adding another layer of software to go wrong.

But hopefully a restore of the backup will fix it.

Thank you so much and i finally got my phone up and running again but I have another question (sorry for the simplicity of the question :D)-should i use Rom manager and how do i flash the roms that i can get form the rom manager, and should i get them from there and should i wipe and should i keep the old rom. A million thanks :)
Best Wishes

In reserve order, "backup rom" is I guess ROM manager talk for a nandroid backup. You want to do this before flashing anything, because if you do something wrong when flashing you might be unable to boot your phone. That nandroid backup is how you get your phone working again if this happens - boot into recovery and restore the backup.

Should you use ROM manager? Well, many people do, and I guess it works well enough for them. But personally I prefer to do it myself (as hatstand suggests at the start of the thread): download a zip, copy it to my SD card, boot into recovery and do it all from there (backups, wiping, flashing). That way I know exactly what is being done to my phone, and I'd argue that if you are going to modify your phone at this level you should know what you are doing.
