Hi all,
New to Android and having had my Desire for one whole day, I am thoroughly pleased I ditched my iPhone!
Anyway, something that I havent seen covered in this thread is getting the contacts from iPhone (or anywhere else) to the Desire without ending with loads of duplicates.
Attempt one was to export the iPhone contacts to my Gmail by way of using the Windows Address Book, which worked but I found most of my contacts had no numbers to their name! I then ditched WAB and synchronised the iPhone contacts to Outlook (which is linked to my Gmail account). I then sync'd the Desire to Outlook and that pulled in all the contacts. My first attempt failed miserably as the silly iPhone had put 90 of my 175 contact's phone numbers under 'other' field. Outlook didnt recognise this field when sending the contacts to the Desire.
I then had to go back to the iPhone and manually change all the fields on that and list them all under 'mobile' or 'home'. Re-synced and it amended all the contacts which meant I had a full list of contacts that I could use.
Why not amend the details in Outlook you say? Because its listed as 'other', the data is just held as a block of text and cannot be changed for some reason.
So my newbie tip here is to make sure that when you are importing contacts from elsewhere, make sure to have all the right details in the right fields.
Hope that helps,
Atik

My Desire got wet,I immediately took it apart, left it in front of a heat gun gently warming it dry,i put it back together and it worked perfectly, (made a call, send 2 messages,it remembered all setting except date)I then picked it up an hour or so later to find it dead,i have tried to switch it on and tried a few other techniques like holding down the Power and Home button etc to no avail,it did however turn on once and the screen gave some options of Reboot/Bootloader etc in small writing, white screen with baby androids at the bottom,I could switch between options using the Volume buttom but couldn't select anything,it then went dead again and nothing since, any ideas please? go easy I'm pretty new to this!
