Root HTC Evo 4G - "E:Can't Find Update Script" - Help

Well, I can see there are other threads here for the same problem but I cant figure this out with mine.

HTC Evo 4g
Unlocked
Supersonic EVT3 SHIP S-On


Downloaded PC36IMG.zip
Placed PC36IMG.zip on root of SD card.
Loaded HBOOT
Can't find PC36DIAG.zip
Can't find PC36DIAG.nbh
Can't find PC36IMG.zip
Can't find PC36IMG.nbh
Okay, so I go to Recovery...
Flash ZIP from SD card
Choose ZIP from SD
Located PC36IMG.zip on root
Install PC36IMG.zip
Then I get an error "E:Can't find update script"



Whats going on here?
 
Welcome to the Forums!

Look and see if maybe it has .zip twice? One way to see well is using the file browser on the phone and look at it.

And You have to use the bootloader to load it, not flash it in recovery!

What PC36img file are you trying to install?
That file is a generic file that can be a recovery or an ruu.
That's why I ask what it is you are trying to install.
And Dustwun is correct...that file can only be used with bootloader, not recovery. :)

I see, I'm using RA Supersonic v2.3 downloaded from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705026

I've downloaded the file PC36IMG.zip and followed the easy directions. The thing is that mine is not "automatically recognizing the zip" as it should.

It's not there twice, files contained within the zip are two files:

"android-info" with the text:
modelid: PC3610000
cidnum: SPCS_001
mainver: 1.00.000.0
hbootpreupdate:11
DelCache: 1


and an image called "Recovery"
 
I am going to go check that link out, in the mean time, just wondering if you know that you aren't supposed to unzip it before you stick it on the root of your sd card?
 
Yes, it is not unzipped on the SD card. I unzipped it here on my computer after it was not working just to look inside.
 
I can't remember if you have to have fastboot unchecked to do that, or even where to find it if you do. been so long since I did it.

One other question I can think of, well, maybe 2.

Have a good download?

Are you using a 2 gig card? We have had issues where the Evo didn't play well with that size card.

Sorry about that! Borrowed Ocn's directions from an earlier episode.

"1. download this file:http://themikmik.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5412&stc=1&d=132767126 5. this one should work with s-on.

2. rename the file to PC36IMG and move it to the sd card(no folders, just on the card)

3. reboot the phone into the bootloader

4. if it is named right and it is on the sd card then it should ask you to update.

5. select yes"
 
Okay, I've downloaded the new PC36IMG you've posted. Renamed. It still is not recognizing the file, perhaps because I am indeed using a 2GB card. Figures... Perhaps I will buy a bigger card and try it.

OCN, can I use that guide on #2 if my HBOOT is 2.18 and unlocked? I noticed you said it is for 2.16 or 2.15

Edit: Okay, I see now also Captain's... perhaps I will buy a bigger card first just because it seems way easier with that method, if that still wont work, then I will dive into it. Which I will probably end up doing anyways... I usually mess with Iphones for people but my cousin asked about rooting his android for him, I haven't messed with androids yet (im a little behind in the game). I am saving your threads there OCN for future reference... I would also like to thank everyone for helping me thus far. I am very appreciative for your time. I will order one of these cards and I will update you guys here about how it goes. Is there problems with any of the other sized sd cards? 4gb, 8gb, etc?

Yes you can MB89 :) Step 2 under the "HTC Dev method" (click on the "show" button). He's not talking about step 2 "Captains Method"
 
Okay, Well since I'm here and the bigger sd card isn't, I will try that method now. I'll check back in soon.

OCN, just a little FYI: Your link to the HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe leads to a 404 page. I found it elsewhere.

I'm following the directions here, and I've run into a few problems.

1.) Theres no fastboot toggle on/off with factory default ROM.
2.) Theres no "charge only" option when connecting through USB to computer.
3.) Revolutionary says "Your Device: Supersonic, with HBOOT 2.18.0001 is not supported at this time.

1. you stock rom does have fastboot. it is found under settings/apps/uncheck fastboot. (it might be under power, i can't remember)
2. when you plug the phone in to the pc you should get an option to select it as charge only. if not then check the notification bar at the top of the screen. if that does not work still then you will need to install HTC sync.
3.if you are unlocked then there is no need to use revolutionary. not sure what you ran it.

what exactly are you trying to do?

These guys absolutely love to help! Don't know what in the world is wrong with them. :p

I have heard of no probs with the other sizes, not sure actually how large a capacity one it will take.

If you haven't ordered it yet, and the price is right, try to get a class 10 card for it's IO speed. That will be a help if you get to where you are running apps from off of your sd card, at a later date.
 
I'm trying to install a custom recovery and root the phone so it will have Tethering. I was trying to put the PC36IMG thing on the SD card and update my phone through bootloader but bootloader wouldnt recognize the PC36IMG on the root of the SD card for some reason, was told that the 2GB cards have problems sometimes in doing that. Have I ventured off into other areas that are not required for doing this? lol

well you ran revolutionary which is not necessary unless you want to get s-off, but with your bootloader being locked you will need to approach differently. you will need to use either captn's method or taco root to downgrade your misc partition so that you can downgrade the phone and then you can use revolutionary to get s-off.

but being unlocked is fine as well.....up to you.
 
S-off is required to put custom images on the phone, correct? With S-On, I cannot put one of those PC36IMG's on, correct? So, I will have to follow Captain or Taco's and revert back? And forgive my ignorance of the subject, those Images are required to open Tethering? My cousin gave me his phone because he wanted tethering on it and wanted a custom UI. I was reading about it, and those images made by RA supersonic and Amon is what im looking for, correct? Sorry, I am an Iphone user and have no experience with androids, but it looks like androids are far superior in the hacking game, i might just switch over lol.

you can install a custom recovery but not by using the PC36IMG method. with a unlocked bootloader the only way you can do it is:
1.get s-off
2.use the adb method(it is more like fastboot method)
3.android flasher
4.or the special PC36IMG file created by captn throwback

but the PC36IMG file needs to be on a 4g card or bigger. the 2g card will not work.

not sure what you mean about tethering and images. the tethering app is just an app. you can find it in the play store or there are .apk versions. the apk version you do not need a recovery to install it. you just need a file manager to install it like any other .apk file. you do need root access(have su installed) to use it though.
