please run the CHKDSK utility
Can anyone please help me I could use and appreciate some suggestions towards getting my phone restored.

Can you get into recovery, if so what recovery do you have? Have you wiped cache and dalvik cache and reflashed the rom? Lastly, do you have a recent nandroid, have you tried restoring the nandroid?

I got into recovery. its the ClockworkMod Recovery v5.0.2.2

Three options here...
1. Wipe everything and flash your Rom again (be sure the Md5 sum matches),
2. Restore from an available NAND backup
3. Or use the correct HTC RUU to restore back to stock

Happened to me when I deleted my nands because of space and then flashed a dirty Rom that didn't download correctly. I had to use the RUU. It's no big deal.

Well, clockworkmod recovery is terrible at wiping but we can change that after we get your phone working :)
Try this, go back into recovery, wipe data, system, boot, caches, dalvik cache, factory reset...wipe them all 3 times. DO NOT WIPE THE SD CARD!!
Then reflash the rom.
After that, we can change your recovery to a better one that will wipe better :)

Do we need toilet paper, as well?:p

No doubt, smelkus recovery is the best recovery available for the Evo4g. To the op, it would be in your best interests to switch to this recovery asap;)

I have not wiped the cache and dalvik cache and reflashed the rom, the nandroid is:
1980-01-06.00.01.56/

now trying to restore nandroid

Okay I have just wiped data, cache partition, but I'm a little nervous because after wiping cache it says "Formatting /sd-ext..." & "Formatting /sdcard/.android_secure..."
Mikestony said "DO NOT WIPE THE SD CARD!!"

I am not sure how to go about reflashing the rom. I am still in ClockworkMod Recovery.

the sd-ext is fine, that is not the actual sd card.
the sdcard/.android_secure is also not the actual sd card.
you are fine:)

Whew!! Thanks!

I wiped my system as you asked three times. Just unsure of reflashing the Rom (don't know how to do it) please explain, Thanks.

After wiping, find the rom .zip on your sd card.
Might have to find the "choose .zip from sd card" option, or something like that, then choose the rom file and select to flash it.

Hi thanks for the great advice.
I did wipe everything as suggested and am stuck because of the following:

I am not sure what the MD5 sum is.
need to know the procedure on flashing a rom.

my computer isn't reading my device since I last checked.

I may have to download a Rom File & place in a folder to access because all I can see after going into the install zip from sdcard menu is apply sdcard/update.zip I don't think that where I should go.

The other option I had was choose zip from sd card which gave me 21 options to choose from and after going through mostly all of them but the obvious all I'm getting is no files found on the zip.

However I believe I'm almost there at restoring my phone.

the install .zip from sd card is the option is what you want. you can use the vol. up and down buttons to navigate and use the power button to select the .zip file.

if you placed the rom .zip on the root(no folder, just on the card) of the sd card, then it should be there.

Hello guys. - my Evo is still stuck on the white screen after attempting to retrieve tie zip file.

This is what I did since we last communicated.
Went into Recovery and CLK(clicked on):
- Install zip from sdcard
CLK - choose zip from sdcard (which gave me a list of @20 files from Android to tjcache)
CLK - clockworkmod
CLK - Download (this gave me 2 choices: download2.clockworkmod.com & get.cm)
CLK - download2.clockworkmod.com
CLK - gapps
Clk - gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip (which gave me the install option that I installed)

also the get.cm
CLK - get.cm
CLK - get
CLK - jenkins
CLK - 2866
CLK - cm-7.2.0-supersonic.zip (which lead to installing this zip file. However I can't remember if I tried to install this as well; I'm not sure)

These were the only zip files that I could locate under recovery

After reading Rooting For Dummies I did take the advice and downloaded PC36IMG RA 2.3.zip which I renamed as suggested. It now resides on my desktop.

I am a very new to rooting and have never flashed a rom before. My Evo was rooted by an AT&T service Tech who had tat experience. He used urevoked3 and it rooted successfully he wanted me to install cyangenMod because that's what he used on his droid. gave me instructions and tried it and got my screen stuck.

I would appreciate help in where to go from here.

o.k..if you are this far with downloading the recovery .zip (RA 2.3), go ahead and install that...it is a better recovery.
There are instructions in the link you got that file from on how to install it.
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html

After you install your recovery, you can go ahead and flash your rom of choice.
If you want MikG3.11, there is also a link in that guide for it and how to flash it.:)
