Help HTC Evo Boot Problem - PC36Diag

My apologies for starting this thread again. I have read so many forums trying to get the best info to help my situation.
My phone is stock unrooted. had a bootloop problem that would get past the sprint screen then their 4G screen and sometimes the home screen, and reboot. usually when phone was warm. learned to deal with it by cooling the phone. (popping battery, in front of AC vent in car, or freezer for few minutes)

Suddenly yesterday while the phone was in charger after "normal" use, I came in to check on it and had the boot loop to the HTC EVO 4G screen, then power off HTC EVO 4G screen, power off, etc...

followed most of what has been described here. I have not recently backed up my contacts, and I do like to have my texts (SMS &MMS) and my voicemails that have not been archived to my sd card. Need them for my business.

I am hoping to save the data on the phone and have not done a factory reset yet with the hopes of finding them and saving to my PC somehow using fastboot usb? or hboot usb?

I have the same issues with the PC36Diag.zip being shown as no image? but it jumps by so fast hard to read.

Do I understand correct that if I download a PC36Diag.zip as linked here it essentially is doing the same as a factory reset? (which may or may not fix boot loop?)

choosing recovery on the hboot screen gets the same boot loop result.

welcome to the forums!!!!!!

ok you have the wrong name for the file. it needs to be called PC36IMG. the phone is programmed to search for a specific name and if it does not find it then it will basically say "no image or wrong image found". unfortunately, htc has not released the code for the latest ota and thus there is no ruu(PC36IMG) file for it. other then a factory reset(which may not work as it only wipes data) there is not much you can do on a non rooted device.

you can try and unlock the bootloader, install a custom recovery, and flash a stock rom and see if that will work.

either way that involves wiping data from the phone.......i'm not sure what else you can do other then take it in.

ocnbrze,

thanks for the reply. well I bit the bicuit and did attempt to clear storage and the same issue is there boot loop stoping at HTC EVO 4G screen. aaarrrgh.

for bosox45 you offer a link and a file to try and write to the sd card. Their original post on Feb. 28, 2012 contained this info

It does say the following however:

NOt knowing enough about any of this, he stated success with the second process of writing to the sd card etc. Is this not an option for mine? if not can you explain why.

as for "you can try and unlock the bootloader, install a custom recovery, and flash a stock rom and see if that will work."

can you offer more details or direct me to locations to that explain possible ways of doing that?

your radios are very different. it came with the latest ota. we have ruu's for the older radios that would work. but since you have an updated radio, you will not get the PC36IMG files to work.

the link that mikey posted is the root guide that you can use to unlock the bootloader, install a custom recovery, and flash a custom rom. it is called the HTCdev method.

it is the only way that i can see on how to fix your phone other then taking it in to get fixed. i'm not 100% sure that it will as the HTC evo has been known to get the bootloop of death(as we here call it) for no apparent reason and i have not seen a fix........so please read the link that mikey posted and let us know how it goes or if you need any help with the process.
