HTC Gingerbread update.

Unbranded firmware comes first, then the networks around the world get it to brand it for themselves. That can take some companies a while, unfortunately.

Will i loose all saved progress in games when the update comes? For example will I loose the levels ive completed in Angry Birds?

I'm not sure. With my old htc phone, OTA updates didn't wipe any data. But I know that installing firmware via the PC always does.

So I'd wait and see what other people report before updating.

No you will not lose any data. I upgraded from 1.32 to 1.72 and lost no data, however I was hinder with a crapy firmware.. hahaha.

Update from UK: No gingerbread!

Update 1: No users in Germany has gingerbread yet looking at their FB page....

Update 2: Someone from Romania has got it, from XDA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13460175&postcount=11

Update 3: Reports now that someone in france has got the update. It looks like it is a europe wide thing now: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1062950

Still nothing for me yet....

Update 4: Italy got it!!! Oh yea.. Look out for version number 2.36.405.8. This is your version for 2.3.3

Still not here either UK

You don't suppose having the 1.72 build instead of the 1.32(or what ever it was) will have an effect do you?

Update : Someone is claiming to have it in UK on facebook

Update 2 : Germany now has it

Nah it is based on the IMEI of the device... Someone in Belgium has it as well. Over at XDA no one from UK has it...

Do you think it will be with us by the end of the day or is there really no telling and could be days yet??

Update available in Denmark, Finland, Serbia, Poland and Sloveni.

Come on UK!!!! Maybe we are 1 hour behind.. HAHAHA

Hopefully we will get it today, but defo by tomorrow.. I remember the 1.72 I only got it from 5pm onwards on the day of release...

I think it will be based on build number actually. I know with the Hero OTA updates, people who got sick of waiting for the branded updates switched to unbranded firmware and got the update that way. People also couldn't get OTA updates until they were using the most recent pre-update build.

Of course, since the 1.72 builds were apparently pulled for being buggy, I imagine they've set it up for both to receive it.

Tmobile better not dick around with this. They were good with Froyo so hopefully this means they won't change much. Then again mine could even be unbranded, better check. Can't even remember if i actually did have to wait for Tmobile when Froyo was released.

I started a new topic on XDA asking if anyone who previously had 1.72 had also received the update and i got a reply saying they had done.

So it seems that build number doesn't seem to have an affect at the moment

It's also exactly the same build number as the leaked gingerbread RUU so if you haven't got that OTA yet and dont mind reinstalling all your apps you can get it right now, For unbranded phones though, or if ya got a goldcard.
Also the OTA still not available for me, UK unbranded.

I just hit the "check now" and it found update to 2.3 ... now it's downloading it.

carrier: Vodafone Romania

cheers

25 min later... and a few restarts during installation:

Congratulations !
Your phone has been updated successfully to version 2.36.405.8

Android version : 2.3.3
HTC Sense Version: 2.1

Software number: 2.36.405.8

Everything is back up... nothing seems to be lost..... not even my app that replaces htc sense (which i strongly recommend for a battery life increase)

carrier: vodafone romania...

cheers
