HTC Gingerbread update.

I still haven't got it... But yea people who has the update, how is your wifi, this release caused some problem with the wifi in the leak release. I don't think it is fixed, but wondering if people are having problems with disconnection

The UK & Europe site HTC sites both say 2.36.405.5 and not 2.36.405.8 like everyone is reporting. Let us know what you get if your from the UK

I've heard that with the Gingerbread update, the facebook integration (contacts etc) will be lost. Is this true?

On the HTC website it mentions backing my data up. What would be the best way to do this? Or is it not really necessary?

Mine is 2.36.405.8, it went really smooth no issues and didn't lose anything on update.

Saying that as I was typing i got my first force close on Picasa Web Albums.

Nothing for me yet :(

I am on Vodafone in the Uk with an unbranded handset and still stuck on 2.2 build 1.32.405.6 !!

I'm on orange with an unbranded phone running: Android 2.2.1 with software 1.72.405.3 still showing no update in the UK!

You'll need the 1.75 OTA before the new one as they're incremental...

Seems to HTC site is a typo as the RUU is also 2.36.405.8

They don't do every phone at once, they have a limited server capacity.
You will get it soon enough (unbranded).

Branded... when the cows come home.

So I have a branded Orange UK DHD.
Despite people saying that there is an update for us soon, I'm not getting my hopes up.

If the update becomes available for people with unbranded handsets, whats the easiest way for me to unbrand and update to gingerbread, will it require root?

Yes it will, just got off the phone with orange, they said that the update will go on branded and unbranded handsets, its just a case of everyone trying to get the update and thrashing out the HTC servers

Nothing so far on an unbranded UK DHD, mind you they have said nothing about the update on the HTC UK facebook page yet

3rd comment down on HTC UK facebook page and the person is in the UK says:
"Thoughts about the new upgrade:
- use wi-fi as is pretty big (100mb+)
-BACK UP your phone as there are REAL chances it will wipe out everything (mine wiped out 50% of it including apps, settings, contacts and everything that wasnt stored in SD- luckily when i logged back to htc sense google and FB it was easy to restore...
- it takes aprox 15min
-beside the updates that everyone spotted it i have also noticed the following :
>the colours are slightly crispiers, more strong
>weather widget now has sounds aswell (optional)
>the maps are somewhat different
>battery lasts 25%more
>Faster
>Standard letters are larger then before
>wi-fi disconnects when signal is weak ( didnt do it before the update)
>my version is 2.36.405.8 (some i hear got .6)
>many apps displays a better fit into the screen
> speakers are louder "

Sounds good to me
