HTC Gingerbread update.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was some deal made between HTC and Vodafone (seems they are releasing the Sensation first) that Vodafone could be the first to send the update out in some ploy to get un-branded users to buy their handsets next time.

HTC wrote to me yesterday saying there was some final testing being done to make sure all operators we're compatiable... YEAH RIGHT.. It's so they could wait for vodafone to bash their update out first in time.

Ok i'll calm down now, that does sound a little OTT but i'm just so annoyed with being stuck on 2.2.1

I can understand some frustrations, but I'd rather wait to make sure the version I'm getting is tested properly and doesn't come with any network branding. If voda are releasing theirs today, it could be based on the faulty release which was kicking about yesterday.

With regard to the backup tool .. the titanium backup says can only be used on rooted phones. What other application would people suggest to use, to do a complete backup

Grab the thirty day trial of MyBackup Pro from the market. That doesn't require root.

I doubt it's a conspiracy. Sequence of events seems to be this:

1) HTC start rolling out
2) New build is given to carriers
3) HTC discover a bug and stop the rollout
4) Vodafone fix the bug independently and release their own version
5) HTC run around in a panic as they continue to try to get their own release out, possibly with the Benny Hill music playing in the background.

Seems more like a farce than an actual attempt to make Vodafone look cool.

You think Vodafone would really be that fast to act, they must of had 2.3 for a good couple of weeks easily

Well yeah, and anyway Ginge has been out since December. Either way though it seems the plan was for HTC to release first and they blew it.

Quick question for people here:

If I install the leaked Gingerbread RUU, can I get OTA updates in the future?

But I want to see Gingerbread!

I'm assuming that because it's a leaked stock ROM, it should update OTA?

I have an older stock ROM on my PC anyway so I can quickly swap back if the bugs are affecting my usage anyway.

Someone else has just claimed to have downloaded the update on HTC UK Facebook from the UK with a phone bought in the UK

Why do you say claimed.... Do you think we are lying?:mad::mad:

You will soon have the update and then you can start moaning about the next release.

I spoke to HTC ... they have said the uk rollout is happening now branded and unbranded, its just a case of when your phone IMEI gets its turn so to speak.

I asked If my network and if my phone was branded or unbranded had any thing to do with it and the guy said nope its just a roll out

I've just treated @tmobileukhelp asking if we would get it on the 8th as per the Orange rumour and they cane back with "we don't have any days yet, we'll tweet when we do"

You're right on both points yes, as far as I'm aware :)

Although you would need a goldcard to downgrade your phone to the old firmware, which can be a hassle.

Just installed gingerbread on my vodafone branded desire hd. Didn't back up or anything and it worked perfectly. Just sayin' ....

You sure on the goldcard front? I'm pretty sure that the stock ROM I used yesterday
was an older version.
