EDIT* i was originally asking if i should enter the bootloader by: turn phone off: press VOL UP and Power

or: turn phone off...press VOL DOWN and Power
 
I did the linked update and my phone is now on .6.

Just know that the process wipes the phone. More of an annoyance than anything else but be aware of it.
 
quick question.... so i noticed that te file is bigger than the ota...

i was reading at xda that this is the full system load... not a patch from .3 to .6

does this mean that this ruu that is now out could be used to roll back a rooted htc evo to a stock version of 2.2??

I can't confirm, I'm already rooted at this rev level. HOWEVER:

Just to be 100% would one of you kindly confirm that that when you're done, your Software Information looks like this:

Claims notwithstanding, and common sense telling you that all will be good and clean and ready t o run perfectly - it's not like their track record on updates is all that perfect.


And - if you have any trouble whatsoever with anything being buggy and this is the leaked RUU courtesy of Sprint - I wouldn't assume that life is peachy - I'd also keep an eye on factory resetting and the recovery above.

Until we have some rubber on the road - you just never know.

Yeah, it's the full system image, so that's why it's bigger..the OTA is a differential patch...only contained the difference between 2.1 and 2.2.

It's a good question about whether it works correctly when overwriting root...it should actually...but I can't guarantee it...there are still some things like the boot loader that may or may not be an issue. Maybe somebody here that knows (that has already done it) can answer.
 
yeah im really wondering if it can overrite root cause if it can wow this file means alot!!! lol

i would and am sure thousands would feel better about rooting especially if there was a one click unroot using this .exe

i really hope some one can answer or confirm this

super noob to rooting... but... isnt this pretty much same way that one would flash a custom rom minus the computer part?

I believe that's a negative - this will not give a one-click root.

Allllllrighty then.

I woud assert that this is signed in such a way as to be indistinguishable from the OTA update and now you're back on the mainline - and your phone should now respond normally to all Sprint-driven updates.

BTW - while the image is fresh - it couldn't hurt to do the factory reset, the radio fix and the PRL update.

That way, you'll _know_ you're clean.

Your install is supposed to be clean, the RUU is supposed to be that way by definition - but it's only as clean as the bench it was made on. The guy who made doesn't have to carry YOUR phone.

Just my opinion.

My last full stock rooted rom - benefitted from it highly.

If you're rooted already - just follow the root upgrade path to this result, except rooted.
 
Xda is always the first. I followed that thread most of last night. Didn't think they would crack the password but I guess they did.
