HTC Hero on Three...

full indoor/ outdoor 3g on my old nokia N95, Hackney East London, so far 3 cannot explain or fix it

I am experiencing exactly the same problem, but I have noticed that when I go to different parts of London (mainly out of the centre or north) everything comes back to life and the phone is as good as an iPhone.

I am expecting a call back from three this evening so if I have any update I'll keep everybody posted.

It sounds like you're in a 3 3G black spot and have roaming turned off. The N95 is probably roaming in the background to another network for 2G (GPRS/EDGE) reception as 3 do not support 2G.

in my case the roaming of my device is switched to Automatic and no other option to do so in the Access Settings section of my three.
I was thinking could it be something to do with my sim?

An issue with the sim wouldn't really make sense if you are getting 3G reception in other areas. In that case I'd expect you to get no reception anywhere.

How'd you mean Access settings > automatic? On my hero (stock not 3) the data roaming setting is in Settings > Wireless controls > Mobile network settings > Data roaming

I was referring to the My three menu on the 3 web portal as I was directed there by customer support.

I can say thought that my phone has never shown any other icons apart for the 3g one and the h next to the reception bar.

Ah ok, that will only turn 3G on/off on your account with 3 but has nothing to do with the phone settings. Check the setting in my previous mail to see if roaming is ticked. If it isn't and you are outside of 3 3G reception you won't get a connection because 3 do not support 2G so you have to roam to another network to get a 2G connection.

When the signal on my hero on Three goes down, it goes onto roaming with the signal bars showing a little "R" next to it.
Does roaming onto other networks charge in the UK and does it affect my free minutes/texts or data?

No roaming charges with 3 in the UK, they have a deal with the other UK network providers to give you access to 2G.

I have a HTC hero that is locked to orange but have a o2 PAYG sim. had to buy a rebel sim to be able to use o2 sim but thinking about switching over to 3 PAYG. mms is not working and can only connect using wireless with o2 sim. any advice on switching to 3 would be appreciated.

can the 3UK Hero be tethered to a laptop as a modem to allow 3g internet over bluetooth?

anybody done this? Do you get billed separately or is it part of your plan allowance?

I bought an unlocked HTC Hero from Amazon and i'm currently on contract with 3. 3 were absolutely useless with my internet settings, the settings they gave me to put in manually did nothing. It was only coming on here and searching other websites that i found the right internet settings and so far (touch wood) i have had no problems. I can acess all 3 services (although their MSN app is abit crap they are always 'experiencing technical difficulties' so have to rely on Meebo until they get it sorted).

I love being on the network 3, and have never lost the signal, even when i spent the weekend in the middle of nowhere, i had one bar signal.

When my contract runs out in December, i'm going to switch to their sim only pay monthly plans coz whatever upgrade they offer me will not compare to the htc hero!

3 have a download link for Live Messenger on the website, when they send me a link through text I cannot access the link it, the browser displays (The page you are trying to access is a mobile internet browser page and only available on a 3 mobile)
Is there any way to change the link to a mobile internet one view on the browser.

Evening gents. Got my hero on 3 today & been having a good play around with it! Managed to get an 18th month contract with 500 mins cross network talk time, unlimited texts & internet for
