HTC Hero problems

Hello folks,

It's been already one and a half years since i've purchased my HTC hero android phone, and since two weeks i've encountered some problems in concern with this model.
My phone had suddenly stopped working with no POWER or charging indication, and i've even tested the battery which was found good and responsive in another HTC series phones.
The problem is that when I sent the phone for repairs at our local representative, they said that i must surely have dropped the phone in water elements or vice versa, through an indicator which they read in the phone inside. I've never dropped the latter anywhere and neither let any water elements to reach my phone.
Could anyone help me to find out from where could i retrieve information concerning this specific android phone indicator and to conclude whether its a real fact or simply they are beating around the bush just only because they lack expertise in repairing the phone which still has its guarantee coverage.
As i really doubt that they are fooling me in corcern for not troubleshooting the device or make me to undergo the repairs cost for a defect that normally occurs with these models.

Thanx

The only indicator that I'm aware of is on the bottom edge of the battery, opposite the four gold-coloured contacts. Normally it's white, but the colour will change if it has been exposed to moisture.

There may also be a similar indicator inside the body of the handset that I'm not aware of, but it would be unusual circumstances to affect this and not the one on the battery.
