HTC Incredible VS. Droid X

I love my INC...it's just frustrating to have still almost zero OEM accessories. that's some bullshirt.

Blame most of it on supply, since aftermarket supplies feed off of demand and install base. Should be better by late summer :)

The Droid X should get much better reception and quality than the Incredible because of the diversity antennae. If one antennae starts to have too much noise, it switches over to a different antennae. In theory, it should work out to be better.

I respectfully suggest the "diversity antenna" holds just as much water as "retina display". ;)

None the less, Droid radio kicks Inc's butt- Yes, I am talking dBm and NOT bars.

I've still yet to get a clear answer on people saying Moto phones are garbage. All I usually get are general, vague blanket statements like this. Can you explain why you think Moto phones are bad? This is a legitimate question as I might potentially be moving on to DX. I've never had a Moto phone, but I know Razrs were kinda bad due to breaking a lot... but from what I've read/heard.. their Droids have been of very excellent and sturdy building quality. I can understand if you're coming purely from an aesthetics standpoint.. because I'll openly admit that the DX will not win any beauty contests - but thats not what I'm too concerned with.

Personally, I have no problems with Moto's. Yes the Razr was absolute crap, but all the way back to my Star-Tac (my sig isnt a joke) i've thought they made a solid device.

I think we have two types of people on the forum, those who like a more slender and sleek device and those who like a more robust device. To me at least, the DI represents the sleek, more compact package and the DX represents the sturdy device...kinda like and car vs an SUV I guess?!

As a matter of fact, other than my Incredible and Eris (all since December) and my BBerry for work, every single phone I have had on VZW since 1999 has been a Motorola

I read that "review" as well
I question that cnet "review"
It should have been clarified that its more of a "first impressions"
The reviewer did admit to not really thoroughly test out the phone. The fact that she mentions OMAP not being as responsive to the Inc might be an unfair direct comparison. I think that has more to do with MotoBlur being inferior to Sense and not really a hardware issue (as benchmark tests have shown).

technically she didn't compare the processors, she compared the responsiveness of the ui between the droid x and the incredible. i didn't take it as saying the processor itself was an issue.

it could be that the omap just has more work to do with the high end media capabilities and the larger screen/resolution. that will even the playing field pretty quickly.

that's also another reason i don't bench race, because it doesn't truly reflect the users interaction with the phone. it just shows the processors raw capability.

As far as the camera thing goes.. I've seen equally amount of people who praise it or on the same level as that cnet reviewer... so I don't know what to believe at the time being. I have seen some gorgeous videos and photos taken with the Droid X though.. so atleast no one has been saying it flat-out sucks yet.

i don't think you'll find anyone outside of apple fanboys or obsessive photography folks that will have complaints about the droid x camera. i think the review is just saying that sometimes cameras do funky things, but you can get excellent pictures out of it. i also doubt you'll find anyone outside of the aforementioned that will say the droid x sucks.

all in all cnet gave it an excellent rating so i think that means a lot. some people just prefer that they don't say anything less than glowing about a device they like.

I took it that way because she mentions the processor right before that statement and really makes no mention of the UIs after that. If it truly is a processor thing (having to do more work, being overall slower, or something else), I would definitely like to know. Perhaps OMAP's power management is slowing it down or something. IN any case, its still largely speculation right now until we get some wide, real-world experience.

Motorola had crappy flip phones back in the day. Yes, the Razr was super popular and helped set a standing in flip phones, but it wasn't really a great phone. Then there was the Pebl, Rokr, Slvr... remember those? They all basically sucked. Motorola was headed straight down the toilet and would have probably would have had it's mobile division bought up by another phone maker. They jumped back into market with Verizon's first Android device and haven't seemed to have looked back. Though, somehow looking forward they thought it was a good idea to release the Devour and the Backflip, which are two absolutely awful phones. While the Droid is a good phone that doesn't mean that we need to start praising Motorola, especially after the other two Android devices that I mentioned were so bad.

The Droid X and Droid 2 might be super awesome phones, I wouldn't doubt that they will technological monsters... but when you slap MotoBlur on it you love all interest that I could have ever had. And don't even get me started with the terribadness of the Motorola WinMo devices... ugh.

Yeah but the Devour and Bacflip are not suppose to be higher end android phones, I think they were pushed more towards teens. I think they are okay phones, not something I would want. But I know my 15 year old brother-in-law said he wanted one. So I think that is more what their purpose was for those phones.

Ok so I was debating getting a Dinc, but now that more is released on the DX, I am starting to like it more and more. I cant believe what I am about to say, but I actually like the new Motoblur....there I said it.

Yeah I think the looks of it so far are not that bad, I think Sense is great, but I was tired of having it. I like this new fresh look, but I will wait to pass judgment on it till I have messed with the phone myself.

I would rather have the option to turn off the bolted on interfaces and use plain Jane Android. I prefer speed over puuurdee bells and whistles.

"Beer", it's what's for dinner.

My .02, I have owned a very extensive list of cell phones on different carriers and the Motorola Droid was hands down the most solid, best built phone I have ever used. There are however a lot of Motorola phones I have never owned...

i agree with having options, however plain jane android isn't always the fastest. look at when the droid was released and how it was choppy scrolling between apps or scrolling in the app tray or scrolling in the web browser. by comparison the eris, which was running sense, was very smooth in all of these scrolling transitions. just saying that to point out that in many cases, especially in the case of the sense ui, most reviewers seem to say that it makes vanilla android more refined.

I really liked the Krazr...I still have it activated on my "double secret, gets me an upgrade every year" number. ;)

I love my DI, but I will at least check out the X when it releases. One of my only complaints when I got my DI was that the screen was a little too narrow for my liking. I've gotten used to it now, but I could use the extra space for a few reasons:

1. Reading text on the DI's narrow screen is good, especially with the auto formatting pinch to zoom, but a little wider screen would be nice I think. Just more space for more efficient work. (emails, docs, etc.)

2. Typing. Sure I have Swype now, but having a wider screen for typing would probably limit my typos for swype and regular tapping.

3. Videos. With the ability to automatically DL video podcasts, I'm watching a lot more videos, and the extra screen size would be nice as well.

The X being too large, missing SenseUI, weird bump in the back, missing trackpad for easy screen waking are my major concerns right now.

My biggest concern so far is the missing track pad as I use it a lot. I'm on the fence about the size... I saw a guy with the EVO on the train the other day and it looked like he was holding a mini ipad, it was so ridiculously huge. Though that would come in handy when watching videos. I'll have to wait and try it out in stores to see if the size is an issue. I really don't think anyone will miss sense ui with the new motoblur and LauncherPro.

Wow, I'm totally torn here.

I do like the incredible, but Verizon and even Google seem to be putting a lot on the Droid X, which does look like it's a great device.

Too big though?

I'm at around day 29 now with my Inc, so I pretty much make my decision now.

I did handle an Evo at a store the other day and it didn't seem as huge as I expected it to.

Try putting on a case of any size.

Plus, when I consider phone size, I think of it in terms of a PHONE (context), first: "Do I really need a PHONE this large to make a simple call?"

The EVO and HD2 are to big IMHO so this X is too. The INC is just right to me.

So why put a case on it? I have never put a case on any of my phones (and I've had quite a few) and I have never damaged/scratched any of them. Unless you're just negligent and abusive, you don't need a case. It just adds bulk.

I get torn about this issue all the time. I like to leave my phones naked but its almost like when its a touch screen I feel like I have to protect it more...

Every phone I've had prior to the DI has always been kinda a tank...

I don't use a case. Just a screen protector.

For me, I'm using it more for things non-phone then for phone calls.
