HTC Incredible VS. Droid X

accidents happen even to the most careful and attentive people. sometimes not even at your own hands.

a case on the incredible is a great way to protect your $500 phone from unexpected drops or scratches. and if you're like me, you may one day sell the phone for funds on a newer phone or you might pass it down to someone else. a case goes a long way to ensuring the device is in the best possible condition when it comes time to move on. plus, in a way, a case actually enhances the incredible imo by adding a little weight and a lot of grip. the incredible is a very slippery phone given it's size and materials.

the x is already a wide phone but putting on a case would make it as wide as a skateboard. some people won't have an issue with that, but it is something to consider.

Time is ticking!! <inserts evil chuckle>
Haha...true.

I'm going to look at the Evo in person this weekend as it's pretty close in size to the X.

I love the size of the Incredible, but like the specs of the X and that I know Verizon will be supporting it long-term. I also like that it's got an official version of swype with a mic button. Don't know if we'll have see that on the Incredible.

Yes, accidents can happen without a case, but I've just never used a case and don't like to. One day, it'll burn me, I'm sure. It's a phone that work pays for. I don't know if they take out insurance.

I don't know...I don't know.

I respectfully disagree.
I love my INC, but the screen is one of my least favorite things about it (second only to the battery life). On dimmer settings it looks so pink, it's absurd.

I played with my friend's iPhone 4. While the limitations of the iOS suck hard, the hardware is THE nicest I've ever held. The screen is absolutely stunning. It's got the perfect amount of "heft." Feels not-cheap compared to the dINC.

all that said, I'm not changing phones until there's a LTE android phone. the INC should keep me happy for a while.

Lex, you in "the city" or no?
My one friend (yes only 1 has Sprint LOL) has terrible reception. He works downtown and lives in Bergen County NJ.

No, I'm on Long Island. I get a terrible signal at my house. Usually don't get 3G there.

With my Inc, I leave wifi always on when I'm either at home or at work. Makes a big difference with battery life at home since I'm not always searching for that 3G signal.

I've just ordered a replacement for my stupid incredible again. I jinxed myself by saying i had no problms. Now my speaker is going bad my phone is slow as death and it wont read my sd card. Second replacement in two months.

I really don't want to start an iphone discussion, as it is a nice kit, but I have to giggle a little bit whenever I hear the DI is cheap feeling, and the iPhone feels really sturdy, and then after a few days of use people are cracking their glass iPhones (who puts glass on the back?), the external antennae makes things WORSE, and the screen has had some yellow issues (although it appears that is temporary). I would take that screen though, if only it were bigger.

Meanwhile the cheap feeling DI has been very sturdy, withstanding several drops from myself.

Good to know, but if it isnt blur what is it? I dont understand how it is stock android, but with a skin...Isnt that what blur is? Stock android with the blur skin on it.

It's called NinjaBlur or ShadowBlur or something equally as ridiculous. It is still similar to MotoBlur and will be just as intrusive and annoying, I'm sure. This has been the downfall of the last two Motorola phones with Android.

Yes, the Droid was an amazing phone. This is NOT the Droid, this is a new phone that is using the namesake. Similar design and whatnot, but not the same phone. Take this phone with it's own merits and flaws. If you are going to compare this phone to the Incredible, then do not compare the Droid to it as well. They are not the same phone.

Yes, I like my Incredible, but I'm far from a fanboy. I can and do admit all of the shortcomings of the Incredible. I also keep up with the latest rumors surrounding this new phone. I enjoy mobile technology and I still prefer the phone that I already own to this one. Maybe it's because I will upgrading next year anyway to some super fabulous dual core LTE phone, or maybe it's just because the Droid X doesn't seem to offer enough benefits for me to switch. Give it until mid August, a month after release, to let the dust settle and see how the phone really is.

I too am trying to decide, mostly between the X and the Incredible. New every 2 is up July 1st and was thinking Incredible until I found out about the X. Both my wife and I will be replacing our current Palm Centro with text only, no data, so I'm sure anything will be a drastic improvement, albeit at a higher cost.

So far I only borrowed a friend's Incredible to browse 1 website. I thought it was fast and responsive and easier to type without a keypad than I thought it would be.

Having read all about the X and Incredible, I was thinking HTC Sense is a better UI, but with that latest article that says X is just a base Android OS with some widget tweaks, that's cool too. Poor battery life on the Incredible was concerning me also, so if it's substantially better on the X, that could sway me.

At the same time, the Incredible just came out, still is on backorder for most and now it seems like yesterdays news a month or so later.

With so many new phones coming out so close together, my other concern is also not waiting long enough for one to have everything I think I want. Which really right now is just the addition of a front facing camera.

Really I would prefer to have the iPhone 4 on Verizon, but would not switch to ATT to do it. I really won't use the HDMI output on the X, but do like the bigger screen in theory, do like the faster processor, do like that it may have longer battery life and do like that both the X and Inc will get the 2.2 update with flash towards the end of the summer.

So....do I wait for the next Droid, which might have a front facing camera? I don't think I want the slide out keyboard, so since Droid 2 is next in line, that doesn't really appeal to me...will Verizon surprise us all and add the iPhone to the lineup late this year or early next? Doubtful, but would be mad if I got a new phone now and they did....

So many what ifs....nothing is screaming to me that I MUST have the X over the Incredible and nothing is really screaming I MUST upgrade now, but at the same time I've been planning for the last 6 months to get one of the Droids come July 1st, just thought it would be a lot clearer when the time came. Guess not! ;)

The fact that you're rocking a Centro screams to me that you must upgrade now.

There must be two batches of displays, since my Inc does not have the pink issue, but I have seen other Incs with the pink.

"Beer", it's what's for dinner.

Haha...True True...Funny thing is, main reason I got the Palm was I didn't have to get a data plan mostly and because it had one of my favorite mindless games from back in the Palm Pilot days, Dope Wars. One of the first things I checked was to see if there is a version for Android and sure enough, all good. :p

No more talk about Droid "X" and MotoBlur. It runs stock Android like the original Droid according to The Droid X does not have Motoblur | Android Central

+100000 even after you posted this there are STILL people commenting on the "blurr" this or that. haha

I am looking hard at the X now. IMHO It won't be as huge as most people love to complain about. I looked and played with an EVO and it didn't seem huge at all. The screen real estate was awesome. To each his own.

I have not seen anyone talk about the three microphones that are on the X... It is suppose to improve call quality and have noise cancellation... ALSO... it is suppose to be able to video recording noise from all around, just where the video is recording or just the narrative part... I think that for call quality if it works as it says.. then It would have the upper hand on the Android devices.... SINCE Cell Phones are used to Talk on!...

Dude, I didnt say anything about the Droid, I was asking about the overlay of the Droid X... And read the post a couple before yours, its not called Ninjablur or shadowblur. Read the forum before you post...

My favorite thing about the Inc is still the AMOLED. I love its deep, dark colors and actually really like its almost over-saturated nature, but as others have mentioned, sometimes it can look a little 'dotty' if reading text. I tried the EVO for a week or two, and as lame as this sounds, it did feel a bit too hefty and large, but I did appreciate the screen real-estate, but wasn't as enamored by its slightly-washed out LCD.

One thing that appeals about the Droid X is that even though it's still an LCD, they may have done a better job with the color, and it uses a higher color depth too than the EVO.

So though I still doubt it'll be as super-saturated as the Incredible (remember, I said I like that a lot), it might be good enough to be an improvement over the EVO, and kind of almost be that "sweet spot" in-between the two.

I'm well aware a phone is more than just it's darn screen, but seriously, it's the one thing I'm looking at all the time, so I do want it to be the best it can be. The Incredible appeals to me in that respect, even if LCD might do text legibility better.

Still might be a tad too big though.

and whats wrong with the Inc??

a) you can't flippin BUY any

b) no dock, only one official car dock (that breaks in 2 weeks if mine was any indication), long wait for extended battery, terrible availability for accessories in general.

the DI is an incredible piece of kit, but it burns me up to see manufacturers and verizon lining up to make DX accessories due, mostly, to the tremendous sales of the original moto droid. which was ugly as SIN, had a terrible keyboard, a terrible camera, and was so seriously flawed that even when it was brand new i didn't seriously consider getting it for more than a few minutes. but cash rules everything around me...

my phone is 2 months old. that is TOO YOUNG TO BE A GOSHDARN ORPHAN! between samsung, HTC and verizon, i have plenty of anger to go around. i am LIVID at how this thing was foisted off on the android faithful and is being quickly abandoned.

sorry for yelling, i needed to vent about this.
