Help HTC M8 Camera Discussion-Show off your pictures!

The Wife's S5 shipped today so I should have it in hand for some side by side comparisons soon. She took my M8 from me last weekend and liked the built in photo editing abilities it had before posting to FB from the bar. Before she even got her S5 she regretted not getting the M8. We will see within a week or so.
 
I've said it before and I'll say it again. I'm no photo buff. I could see nothing wrong with any of the pics of any of the three phones. I can live with any of them. The difference to me is the phone. I'm a HTC guy. I'll love the phone. Can't wait to get it.
 
I got annoyed with the reviewer citing "most vivid" colours as a plus. Not having seen the original scene I want to know which is most accurate, which may not be the same thing at all.
 
When I walked in to buy this phone my most important factors before deciding were:

-Battery life over my M7 (and in comparison to other phones)
-The way it fits in my hand
-Outdoor performance in direct sunlight
-Call quality
-Camera performance

After checking all of those and the quality of shots inside the store when I tested the phone I was ready to buy. I have not seen a picture in this thread that I have not been impressed with.

Camera performance is definitely improved over the M7. Still has a few quirks, but what phone doesn't There is a reason they cal lit a phone, and not a Camera with a built in phone.

Keep in mind this is a compressed image from Tapatalk, so it's not even showing how good this picture really is.

I just wanted to chime in on the photographer vs camera thing. Last weekend my girlfriend and I went to a wedding and on occasion she would take pictures with my phone. No matter what she did, all the pictures she took were pretty bad. She has an iPhone 5 and takes relatively decent pictures with that but she is a tiny girl. I think the combination of the added size and lack of OIS really affected her. Or maybe those of us who have had HTCs are just used to the software, etc? I can't speak to that but it was crazy how bad her pictures were with my phone and how great mine were.
 
I definitely don't want to turn this thread into an M8 vs S5 thread but every review I am reading of the S5 has some camera gripes (nothing is perfect) and this little nugget seems to stick with me from Techradar's review:

"The camera in the Galaxy S5 is as competent as it is powerful – it's nowhere near as good as the Nokia Lumia Pureview sensor, but then again, it's more adept than the HTC One M8 if you're willing to put the time in.However, the One M8 is the better option for day to day point and shooting – the sharpness is actually comparable as too many S5 pictures didn't quite come out as pleasant as I thought they had when viewing on the screen."

The article said that it takes two images for hdr averaging - the One X series took three.

I think that the hdr mode ought to be subject to a revision update regardless of how many images are used. One expects some artifacts (artificial noise) in hdr shots but from what little I've seen, I think that they can do better here.
 
I'm the most critical person on earth. And have to say even though I think this phone should have a higher MP count for detail and sharpness, it's really pretty good.

Been using it all day and what I will say its not nearly as bad as some reviewers are saying. Whether that has to do with HTC sprinkling some magic into the software with processing I don't know.

I really wonder how the GPE edition fares next to the sense version?
 
Mushroom hunting again today so I snapped several more pics with the M8.I have image adjustments under custom camera settings set to,contrast +1,saturation + 0.5,sharpness +1.The rest stock settings.

Hey all - Still haven't made the JUMP. I'm liking (loving?) everything I'm hearing and seeing here - except for the issues of outdoor photos. I don't used the camera all that much (thus - I would never shell out for a standalone camera). About 90% of my photos are done outside.

I know that the M8 has a boatload of camera settings. My question - can you save specific settings, such as "Outdoor - Sunny", "Outdoor - Cloudy"?
 
Yes they are all there, a whole boat load of tinkering options.

And honestly you don't really need em! I'm a maniac when it comes to taking pics and video with my phone, and have to say the camera on here is very very worthy and takes some pretty awesome pics.

Seriously - as long as the ability t save multiple camera settings - it sounds like it should be fine!

Lol...I was one of the people that were waiting for this phone to get announced and when I saw it had a 4MP Ultra Pixel shooter on board again like the M7 I went nuts and did my share of ranting right here on these very forums.

However even after trying it in the store I didn't get a real sense of what the camera could do, so decided to just take the plunge and get the phone and give it a test drive all my own.

A few days later and I can tell you this, the camera does some truly awesome things, and if your crafty enough to go further and tinker with the ISO settings etc, etc, you will really enjoy the M8. I'm stock and haven't had to really mess around with anything and am truly happy with the phone at this point.

BTW, the Battery life is just plain awesome as well!
 
Gotta Love New Orleans. Took some snaps at the French Quarter Fest and was really messing with the different options like Daytime, etc.

This Picture is on Auto. As you can see the sky is completely blown out due to the amount of light

You can find the options for AWB, Incandescent, florescent, daylight, and cloudy in the the white balance settings. By default it will be a setting at the bottom of the screen and will say "AWB"
 
Wow, a lot of colors and contrasts in those pictures. Last two pics have some really dark areas and the first one the sky is really blown out. It could be tweaked a little, but I love the colors. Overall great pics!

Yeah a little tweaking here and there and saving them as presets is what I ended up doing. The way to get those darks a little brighter and the sky a little less bright is to actually tap on the darkest part of the picture before taking it. It then uses that light point as the focal point (I think, I am really just a point and shooter but it seems to work that way).
 
Actual pictures and video of "beating the dead horse" with an m8, might prove to be more convincing. Using the m8 to beat the horse and take the pictures could merge a few threads.
