Help HTC One M8 stuck in bootloader

Hi Earlymon (and others). I have the same issue sadly. I had a cyanogen rom on my HTC ONE m8 which was so buggy that I decided to wipe it and now I can't even get it to load up past the loaders anymore. This is truly messed up.

Anyway, I followed some steps and the getvar gives me:
version: 0.5
version-bootloader: 3.19.0.0000
version-baseband: 1.25.214500021.06G
version-cpld: None
version-microp: None
version-main: 4.16.401.10
version-misc: PVT SHIP S-ON

meid: 00000000000000
product: m8_ul
platform: hTCBmsm8974
modelid: 0P6B10000
cidnum: HTC__E11
battery-status: good
battery-voltage: 0mV
partition-layout: Generic
security: on
build-mode: SHIP
boot-mode: FASTBOOT
commitno-bootloader: 3aa067db
hbootpreupdate: 11
gencheckpt: 0

I used Hasoon2000's toolkit for everything. I locked the bootloader (so it's RELOCKED) now. I did"Flash Factory RUU Zip" which seemed to work but it just hangs on the silver HTC logo. I waited and waited but nothing happens. Please, any tips..

Well, my issue wasn't due to rooting. I never rooted my phone. So it's possible your issue is different.

Oh and dude please remove your IMEI and Serial number from the output.

Meh, toolkits.

What recovery do you have and what version?

When you say you decided to wipe CM, do you mean you wiped system from recovery?

When you say you did "Flash Factory RUU Zip" what did you do? Was this something from the toolkit? And where did you get the RUU, or does the toolkit "offer" to download it?

Did it make any progress at all, any movement of progress bar on the RUU screen on phone? Just trying to establish if anything was flashed or half flashed, or not. If not and your firmware is as reported under versionmain then we're good.

Did you run the getvar all command after you tried the RUU?

If firmware is still ok and intact, good news is HTC-Dutch is a WWE 401 firmware and it looks like your also up to date so we can get you sorted pretty easily.

Be tomorrow probably before I can get back to you. In the meantime don't be tempted to try anything else - toolkits or otherwise.

(tmontney Nice catch on the IMEI/serial no)

I do not have a recovery anymore. Answer below.

Yes, I don't remember exactly what I did. I wanted to flash the RUU back on it and the toolkit gave the warning that it would delete my current ROM. I pressed OK, turned out i didn't "relock" my bootloader. I did that, and then I found out i couldn't enter recovery because it deleted everything. I am just stuck in the bootloader now.

This was something from the toolkit, yes. I got the RUU from http://www.androidruu.com/?developer=M8 and I chose: RUU_M8_UL_L50_SENSE60_MR_HTC_Europe_4.16.401.10_Radio_1.25.214500021.06G_20.68.4196t.01_F_release_417003_signed.exe

No progress bar, just the silver HTC logo. It could probably stay like this infinitely.

Did you run the getvar all command after you tried the RUU?
I will do the getvar again.

I have no clue if it's intact or not. If by intact you mean I can still run a bootloader and it recognizes my usb, then yes.

Thanks a ton!

There's a few things in there that I don't quite get.

First, was it through doing something in the toolkit that removed your recovery before the RUU stage (we'll come on to that bit later) 'cos I don't understand how that's possible without flashing or trying to flash say a stock recovery over whatever custom recovery you had on there. I'm assuming you used the toolkit to root and that it probably flashed TWRP 2.7.x.x on to your phone.

How did you relock the bootloader, was this via the helpful toolkit or manually yourself using fastboot? Is it Relocked - can you confirm it says Relocked at the top on the bootloader screen?

Second, there is a difference between "Flash Factory RUU Zip", which by its name sounds like it means using the 0P6BIMG.zip RUU method - but the file you downloaded looks like a packaged .exe RUU that is meant to be run from a PC with phone connected. The filename of the .exe looks to be official right enough, so no reason to be suspicious although I can't confirm where it originally came from - if it's been tampered with or altered in any way it wouldn't install as you are s-on and only official digitally signed RUUs will work.

Ignoring the toolkit, the fact that this didn't install means either you didn't have the phone in fastboot mode when trying to run if from your PC, or the .exe file for some reason doesn't include your HTC__E11 cid number in the android_info.txt file (which it should since your carrier uses x.x.401.x firmware), or you don't have fastboot setup on PC properly for the .exe to use it (not sure if the .exe will have fastboot embedded in it).

For sorting out fastboot you can do this yourself manually rather than relying on toolkits - check EarlyMon's post here for the download and how to set it up:

ADB Guide (updated 2014/11/11)

Can't emphasise enough how useful this is to have.

I guess the question is do you want to just revert back to stock? In which case running the RUU .exe from PC with phone in fastboot mode should work unless it's not genuine.

Or do you want to unlock the bootloader, install an up-to-date version of TWRP and then flash a custom rom of your choice?

This assumes that your 4.16.401.10 firmware is all ok - that's the latest for WWE so assume you either got the phone pretty recently, or were stock until recently and upgraded via OTAs.

I didn't search hard EM, just looked at htcdev. Although perversely I have no problems trusting hex edited firmware from xda - but that's my risk, rather be cautious when trying to help someone else [emoji4]

And chime in please if you spot something that's not right

Dear EarlyMon, I have almost the same problem, my HTC one M8 stuck in bootloader
I think I erased OS
Could you help

i have "exactly" the same problem i think. (htc one m8)
except on my bootloader it says:
***software status: modified*** (I did not root it, i dont know what it means)

I unlocked the phone hoping to bring it back to life but it didnt help neither.
I tried to root it but I couldnt get SuperSU into the internal storage (CANNOT COPY ERROR).

Long story short: I am stuck. Did you find any solutions ?
