One has to wonder what this reviewer deems as "decent" for battery life.He rates it a 5 on a 1-10 scale,yet ,in the same breath,basically states that he used the phone extensively,w/lots of on-screen time & "only" got 10 hrs. of battery life.:rolleyes:

Even most power users don't use their phones to the extent that the reviewer did.I'd say 10 hrs. w/this kind of use is acceptable & in real-world use most will see much better than this.

I was surprised to see that GLONASS as well as GPS being supported. I was skeptical about that because it's not part of the built-in Snapdragon 600 capabilities, if this is accurate -

Snapdragon 800, 600, 400, 200 Processor Specs | Qualcomm

There was confusion about last year's crop supporting GLONASS.

But - HTC does list that on their website for the One's specs - GPS + GLONASS - so, there we go.

The Verge is a major commercial tech site which attracts a LOT of hits. If they're going to do a definitive review the phone they should be reviewing should at least be the final release model.

I also noticed that this review complains about overall brightness, while the others from yesterday clearly say the opposite.

I've grown tired of the Verge reviews...They find something wrong with pretty much everything.

Engadget's review was a lot more in the favor of the phone performing well in pretty much every category, especially the camera.

An honest review will come of my hands when I get a hold of it Earlymon :D

Just for clarity sake, this was a comment regarding screen brightness right? Not camera brightness or anything else?
I think I recall noticing a comment like that regarding screen brightness when speed reading one of the reviews so far. Only one review so far that I have scanned mentioned it.

It is way too early to blow any whistles because this is not something we can determine from pre-release reviews since there are way too many variables at play here (like independent lighting, ambient lighting, different cameras, different camera settings, each reviewer sees things differently, flukes, anomalies, etc.)

But it couldn't help but make me start pre-considering who HTC's source(s) are for the SLCD3 screen panels this year. HTC definitely has a track record for sourcing their display panels from multiple manufacturer/distributors resulting in differing brightnesses and color reproduction values across the same device. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt in the new year with a new device, but it has been something in the back of my head even before reviews for when I go to test out 'The One' and do my personal research. I may even try to take a look at the device at multiple locations to increase the sample size.
 
After reading all the reviews on here, I'm definitely picking one up.

Just need to wait until I get the confirmation i'm getting a bonus from work (forgone conclusion, just need to be 100%) and I will get this bad boy on order.
 
Despite HTC's screen supplier history (at least 4 on the Evo, 2 on the 3vo for example), we've seen none of that on the One X.

Other reviewers with production models said that the thing was very bright, far brighter than SAMOLED, as we've come to expect.

The Verge had different results, and noted that they had a pre-release model, but published anyway.

And Super LCD3 is a marketing term, and nothing more, it says nothing about display type or supplier.

The One X reported itself as a Sony, meaning that it came from Japan Displays, and it was an IPS species of some sort.

The 1080p screen has been proven since the Butterfly J, and I've yet to hear of screen issues on the DNA.

One reviewer claimed that the One screen was like the DNA, maybe just a tad better. I attribute that to observer bias, and expect that this screen is really the same one that has already been successful in their supply chain.

Dear HTC,

Stop giving pre-release models to reviewers, it doesn't do anyone but them any good.

Indeed...I will have it on Launch day and the torture,,errr testing will begin...lol. You know I'll be lighting up these forums with my honest take on the device.

Honestly if I can get past blink, and it works in my favor...With that kind of build quality and what not, it will be a hard phone to top. I can care less about the marketing abilities of a 4 megapixel camera compared to others with 8-13. If the thing takes good pics, is not bogged down by sense, and battery life is livable...I will make it my daily driver. I'm tired of the plastic and breakable glass, I want metal and the sense of durability when I pick my phone up...Will the software top my nexus...nope! But I can deal with a little change and deff walk in with an open mind...I'm becoming such a sucker for build quality!
