Root HTC Sync Manager problem! Phone is not connected.

antper

Lurker
I had sync manager installed and it was working fine. Until I upgraded the phone to the latest os. Which was the Lollipop.
Now what happens is
Sync Manager opens, but says phone is disconnected. I see the phone in windows explorer, I can browse through all the files, I can see pictures, music, etc.. No problems.

I have tried uninstalling sync manager, reinstall. Rebooting many times. I have tried running a driver cleanup of all devices and still same thing happens.
USB debugging is enabled. I would like to root the phone and install a custom rom. But the adb utility doesn't see the phone as well. I have tried Hasoon2000 and it doesn't see the phone.

I have an sdcard as well on the phone and I can see that as well through windows exxplorer. I have tried other manager alternatives such as Mobi, phone explorer and they also don't see the phone but they open up as well when I connect my phone but just can't connect to the phone.

I have Windows 7 64
HTC One M8.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Sorry I've never used the app but have you read reviews or the app details to make sure it's been updated for lollipop? Otherwise email the dev (address should be at bottom of the play store page)
EDIT sorry is it a PC program?

Its the app that comes from HTC itself. HTC Sync Manager. I updated the phone with the latest update release from HTC. I have not rooted the phone yet. I am trying to root the phone but the issue is it is not recognized in the HTC app itself. So when I run the Hasoon utility to root the phone it also does not see the phone.

If the OS update has affected the PC connectivity, the best people to ask are other M8 users. So I've moved the thread over to the M8 forum.

Did you try turning on USB Debugging in developer options?

UPDATE: Oops, I see you already said that. Sorry about that.

OK, sorry for the musical chairs but because your goal is root, I've moved this to the rooting forum.

Let me recap what I read, tell me if I'm wrong.

You want HTC Sync to work so that adb works so that Hasoon toolkit will root your phone.

Several problems.

First, HTC Sync hasn't provided reliable adb connection since Windows XP (my personal experience shared by others) - you need adb drivers.

Secondly, you don't really need a toolkit with adb, you can easily do this yourself with fastboot instead of adb - if Windows Explorer can see your phone, you're good to go.

There are three general steps - unlock bootloader, install TWRP, and either install SuperSU to your existing rom or install a custom rooted rom.

The substeps add more but it's all mostly copy and paste.

Get the sdk-tools.zip, aka the Mini-SDK, from here -

http://androidforums.com/threads/adb-guide-updated-2014-11-11.443072/#post-5389081

Turn off your phone. Hold volume down while powering up, connect to pc - stop and tell me if it doesn't say FASTBOOT USB in highlighted letters.

If it does, you need a command window.

In Windows Explorer, single click the sdk-tools folder, then shift right click - a menu should appear with the option to Open a command window here.

Do that.

In the command window, say -

fastboot devices

You should see a return with what looks like a serial number. If you do, you're over the hump.

Go to http://HTCdev.com - follow the bootloader unlock instructions. They'll tell you to get the full SDK and make noise about the platform-tools folder. You have us, you don't need that. In the command window say,

fastboot oem get_identifier_token

You can copy info out of the command window.

Click on the command window.

Alt+shift will bring up a menu, press E for Edit, S to Select all, and again with return to copy.

Paste to a notepad or something, then just copy out what HTC wants.

Put the Unlock.bin file into the sdk-tools folder.

Command window -

fastboot flash unlock token Unlock_code.bin

Go get TWRP 2.8.5, your choices are GSM, Sprint, Verizon, get the right one, and get the IMG file download. Put it in sdk-tools.

http://teamw.in/project/twrp2

Command window -

fastboot flash recovery exact-name-of-open-recovery-file.img

If you did everything per instructions, you get a message saying around 16 kbytes transferred and OKAY.

Unplug phone. If you don't see Recovery in the list, choose and goto hboot, then recovery.

Team Win screen followed by menu.

Choose Backup, select defaults.

Post back for the final step.

If you absolutely don't want to do this, you can try Scotty's adb drivers linked here -

And try the toolkit.

My way will leave you more knowledge and confidence needed to fix things in the future.

Your choice. :)
