Help HTC Weather Widget broken???

To follow on from my earlier post (2 up from this one)...

When I was in Worthing, the HTC weather widget would normally correctly report I am in "Worthing" but show no weather data for it.

Last couple of days I have been in and around Godalming in Surrey and the weather widget now tells me I am in "United Kingdom" (about as vague as it can be!) but does show me weather data (although I can't be sure it is local data for Godalming, it sounds about right).

So whatever the actual problem is, it does seem to vary with location. I'll be going to Horsham tomorrow and back down to Devon in a few days time so will see what it does for me there.

I have just contacted HTC via their support form and would urge everyone else to report this to them too. I also gave them a link to this thread as other's have done too. Quick link to their support form: HTC - Support - Customer Service - Support via e-Mail

Mine is once again stuck on United Kingdom when I'm at home.

I've received this reply from HTC:

"Thank you for contacting HTC. HTC are currently investigating what has recently been changed on the weather provider's database to show United Kingdom as current location and we hope to have a resolution in the very near future. If it is identified that a fix is required for the weather application, the resolution will be made available on the HTC website. Please continue to watch our web site. Would like to thank you for your patience. I Trust that this resolves your query please do not hesitate to contact us again if required."

errr well it doesn't resolve my query actually but a fix would

It's still broken. Very annoying as it was one of the more useful features of the Desire.

When I started this thread I had NO idea that it was a problem affecting so many people. It does appear that HTC do not seem eager to assume reponsibility for its fix, which is disappointing, given that so many people have expressed dissatisfaction with their broken widget.

Mine has worked more or less OK for the last week .... I don't think I've seen it displaying "United Kingdom" at all.
Even the sun stops shining and the moon comes out and vice versa at logical times.
However it still refuses to show the name of my home village like it used to, instead when I'm at home it shows the name of the largish town a couple of miles away.
I can live with this but was impressed at the apparent accuracy when I first got the phone and now it's a bit of a disappointment.

However Current location on Google home page continues to be spot on with the name of my village and have never wavered.

Sorry to jump in here, but my legend's got the same sort of problem, whereas its stuck on a location i went to yesterday, refreshed it synced it removed & re installed it but to no avail. On a side note google cant bring up my location either dont know if its releated or not,is this all part of the same problem as you guys?

Glad im not the only one with this problem, my desire as started doing it a few days ago from waht i noticed. everything else knows were i am.

hope it gets fixed soon!!

So this issue is affecting many HTC phone users across different mobile networks. Does anyone know if HTC plan to fix it?

They say they are working on it, but no sign of anything yet.

Just about all their handsets are affected, not just android.

My partner has an Orange contract but through one of these warehouse places so the brended software isn't loaded, she upgraded to 2.2 and her problem is fixed. Mine has the brended Orange rubbish on it and they do not support 2.2 so I am stuck with the problem :-(

I have a different issue following 2.2.

My weather widget now occasionally says "Loading Data" and then it all goes grey with only the small refresh bar at the bottom with no time against it. When it goes like this I can't do anything with it other than remove and re-add it, then it seems to work ok for a while until it decides to break again. Its also happening to somebody else in my office whos on Orange with 2.2 so its not a network issue.

I updated my Desire to Android 2.2 last night, all went well but still no weather.

In a support email reply I received from HTC, they basically told me they are investigating and will post a fix / resolution on their support site once they had dealt with it. Sounds to me like they are not too bothered about this at the moment.

I wonder if some of the android / tech news sites would make a story out of this? I mean, it's kinda ironic that the widget shown off in every HTC phone advert out there, is non-functional! May embarrass HTC enough into pulling there finger out on this one...

It's got worse over the last day or two. Yesterday, I was in London. It said "London", but no weather at all. Today, I'm back in Slough. Sometimes it says "Slough", sometimes it says "Current Location", and sometimes it says "United Kingdom". No matter what it says, there's still no weather....

Got this problem as well - I have a hero on orange. The problem only started when I got updated to 2.1 ....

Very annoying

I stopped using the weather app and widget when I was still on 2.1 as part of my battery saving set up, but since playing with it on 2.2 I've noticed it no longer specifies my exact location when I'm at home, it did on 2.1, and when in the clock app it displays the current location's weather underneath the time, but it no longer has the text that says it's the current location, e.g. Location (Current), and I'm sure it did in 2.1.

Mine's on 'Current Location' at the moment :( And it has a habit of saying Hounslow, when I'm in Ealing! Hopefully it'll be resolved soon :)

After displaying United Kingdom at home for the last few weeks, mine has changed since last night. It's now displaying a town about 5 miles away, which it's never done before. Not as good as my home village which it used to display, but certainly an improvement on United Kingdom!

Mine says it cannot get weather info for the current location.

Mine does that when I'm in my home town (which is displayed correctly) but if you select my home town manually from the list in the full ap, it shows the weather. It only ever does this when I'm in my home town - everywhere else I go, it displays weather for my current location correctly.

Mine's broken too . I refresh the page yet nothing happens . No weather , no temperature , nothing . I'm from Singapore btw

I've had to set mine fareham because like London, Portsmouth isn't having any weather today and hasn't done for the last few weeks. If you remove the app and readd it you can choose a smaller nearby town as default and you should find it works fine. Nowhere major seems to have weather any more. If like me you rarely leave town you just have to put up with a slightly odd place name on the front. It's strange how this problem gas come about. You wouldn't think it would be that difficult for HTC to fix.

Hi,
I've had this prob for abotut he last 3 weeks too. I'm down in SE Kent. My desire goes from current location to United Kingdom and mostly has the weather data in but not always.
I've raised a ticket with HTC and copied in the URL of this forum thread. Seems like we shouldn't hold our breath for a quick fix.

Funny thing to add though is that my better half got exactly the same phone (HTC desire) from Orange UK only about 1 week ago and hers works fine, updates the weather and location name well - no hint of current location or united kingdom. They are both runnning android 2.1 and no other differences I can think off. massivley annoying.
