i used unrevoked on my evo and i did the wifi tether a while ago and it worked then later on it said im not rooted and also i tried using like 3 other rooted apps all said i was rooted. when i went to that white screen (cant remember name of it) it said S-off which i thought meant rooted???

Root Htc wont run rooted apps even though its rooted?

There are three aspects to root. One being unlocked nand or s-off. The other being a custom recovery and a rooted rom.
Do you in fact have s-off? Please check by booting phone into hboot (volume down + power)
Do you have a custom recovery, clockwork mod is likely. Navigate to recovery from hboot and see if it goes to clockwork mod.
Finally do you have the super user app? Download terminal emulator from market and type su in it and hit enter, does it change from $ to #?
Do these things and report back and we can help ya out
