Hmmm... I started this thread for me and everyone else. I need help for apps I should have on my phone and how to make my phone run faster. Right now I dont wanna root my phone until the Update comes :rolleyes: Also someone should make a tutorial video about rooting your phone. I need a password app for my SMS and gallery or anything else. I have LauncherPRO on my phone. I want to have less things ongoing on my notifications bar. SO HELP :D

As far as waiting for 2.2,how long can you hold your breath? ;):)

Seriously,as long as you follow the lists on what's safe to delete & not to delete,you'll be OK.Also,as mentioned previously,you don't have to delete anything to improve performance,so you're safe either way.Once you're rooted,just make sure you back up everything before you start deleting stuff,with Titanium Back-up Pro,or something equivalent to it.

Rooting is like hacking into your phone's system so that you can do things to it that you can't do otherwise.

If you want to know more about it read the Step by Step to Rooting thread in the Forum Guide.

It makes your phone a little faster and enables you to use certain applications that only rooted phones can use. Rooting is similar to unlocking or jailbreaking.

To follow up what Jazziette said, rooting gives you full administrative access to the phone. Essentially, it bypasses restrictions built into the Android OS, allowing you do do things such as changing boot animation files, and using other applications that must have administrative access to work, such as Cache Mate For Root, SetCPU, etc.
