There are no shortcuts to rooting, and its dangerous to just jump in and root without knowing what you are doing. Luckily, people have gone thru the pain for you

Check out this guide written by a chap on here called Le3ky

Another method is Unrevoked . . . google is your friend . .

Unfortunately Lekky's guide is quite old and will not work on many newer phones.

Unrevoked would definitely be the way to go about this.

I would recommend reading through the rooting FAQ in my signature (Scroll to top of this thread, sigs only display once per page). It can also be located via the sticky in the Desire all things root forum.
 
hey guys, i just checked my bootloader version and it says : hboot - .93 would that mean i cannot root my phone? sorry guys i'm a complete noob
 
I'm on there, look me up, same name as here :)

I like the Blog section personally, that's something I've wanted to have for a while and isn't really supported on Forums like this.
