I am sad - figured out what is causing lag

One word - Sense.

I disabled it, and the phone performs the way it should. Fast, no lag anywhere. Stable.

I am sad. To get a good phone, I have to turn it into a Droid? Damn.

So is there a comprehensive list of the Sense features?
 
Turning it off doesn't really turn it into a DROID, but mine's disabled too. My phone performs faster. Can't wait til it's rooted so I can flash 2.1 onto it without Sense.

I hate Sense. People are always like "Well jeeez maan if you don't like Sense why didn't you get the Failorola?" derrrr derrrr.
I love the Eris and I'd never trade it for the Moto, but Sense sucks, point blank.
That's the only reason we're still waiting for 2.1 for Eris is because HTC HAS to have Sense on it before they give it to us.

You mean aside from the fact that it lags my phone in the menus, and makes my phone look like a toy?
And that nasty, ugly Lock screen..don't even get me started.
I notice much better battery life without Sense also.

Lag - suck, for certain.

Toy and lock screen? Preference.

And after I was using plain Android for a while, it started slowing down as well. :confused:

Mine has never slowed down while using Home.

Try rebooting once a day or two.
You like the lock screen, over the one, say, the Droid has? You can't tell me that.. no way in hell.

My sense does not lag either....The ONLY lag I get is making/receiving/ending calls. :)
 
where can i find out how to shut it off?i dont see anything on the bottom of the forum. what is faq? can you also turn it back on??

I honestly don't mind the lock screen at all...I really don't notice it. Then again, I don't swipe it, I just hit the keys to unlock it. And I only ever see it for like 1 second, as I put the phone to sleep manually when I am done.

Which Droid lock screen- the old one or the new one? I actually like the lock screen on the Eris. I like Sense as well. I just wish it didnt cause the lag. Had enough of the plain jane android on the Droid.
 
Mine doesnt lag, it just drains the hell out of the battery. Dunno why, but this is even after I restart, have a full charge, and kill unnecessary apps. Ive been over the "how to save your battery" threads, and killing sense helps me the most. Do the items like Weather, Mail, Peep, etc keep running with sense? Maybe thats my problem.

But sense doesnt really lag for me. it does if i dont restart for a while and if i dont kill extra apps after a few hours or every now and then. try that out for the lag.

I've used Task Killer full since I got the phone. It does nothing when you have Sense and a lot of widgets.
Yes, the weather, mail, peep and facebook etc. widgets drain your battery. Why? Because every time you scroll the screen over to them, they reconnect to the internet to update themselves, which uses the network, in turn draining the battery.

I have Home on my Eris, as I'm sure you're aware, and my battery has gone down 6% in 4 hours.

so true :( its one of the main things running through my head as i make the decision to keep this phone for my business. if im going to keep the eris i want to use its sense capabilities and awesome usability, otherwise, i mineswell go for the droid. its sad to hear that i need to disable sense in order to get rid of lag when the phone is based/sold around sense. i also hate the fact, as you point out, that the only reason we're waiting for a big update is because of sense. this just hurts me as an android fan as well as an eris fan. the most lag i get however is due to the outdated processor also in which if i type the phone can't keep up to me! (and trust me, im not the fastest typer in the world on a virtual keyboard). all of a sudden i get done and notice mistake after mistake in emails and such. running multiple programs at once? forget about it. i can the most annoying lag ever - is this due to sense also or the processor? (or both?) my smartphones have always been a major part of my business and i need something reliable and fast, if i need to sacrifice the beauty of this phones sense then i guess thats what ill have to do. but if this is a hardware issue in terms of lag, this is not my phone. if its software, i know it'll get fixed and i'll keep the phone i fell in love with over my blackberry's a few weeks ago :) but knowing that the eris has to go through sense before anything gets fixed is a sad thing to me, because that means the droid has the upper hand in all future updates and fixes.
 
This is disappointing as I've had nothing bot trouble with my Droid. I love it and all it does, but the call quality has been awful on two devices. Now that I have the Eris, the phone is great. My problem is with the screen freezing when I try to post and PM on other forums. I bought these phones for Internet use, too.

Click menu>settings>applications>manage applications and scroll down to HTC Sense. Clear defaults and force stop. Press the Home icon and there's an option to select Home. Check the box to make it the default. You will be able to use Android widgets but not HTC widgets from then on. If you want Sense back, do the steps above but clear defaults in Home, force stop, click the Home icon, and make Sense the default. Hope that helps. Faq is frequently asked questions.
 
I am going to run plain Android all day today and see what happens.

My thinking is that Sense is a big culprit on this phone FOR THOSE HAVING ISSUES. (I say that to avoid the "stop complaining / my phone is great" comments. If your phone works great, I am jealous.) Not the processor. Not the apps. But Sense.

I didn't have very many sense-specific widgets running...just the clock, the browser shortcuts and a couple of other things.

However, I notice that most of my issues are from sense: force quit / restart of Sense UI at least 5x per day; clock takes about 30 seconds to update form sleep; lagging when switching between screens or back to home; force re-starting of the phone; freezing when selecting new programs.

Sigh...
 
I gotta say that I have no trouble with my phone. I wonder if my expectations are lower or if my phone is working better than others. I don't notice any lag. My phone updates when it is supposed to, the call quality is great; I almost never get a force close unless it is with a new app which I quickly uninstall if that's the case; and I love Sense. I wonder if those with difficulty have a lot of apps installed that are not necessarily stable. I have about 25 apps installed so I'm not running purely on the phone's installed apps, but I really don't experience any problems. Oh, my phone worked fine post update as well. I do wish my battery life was a little better, but I definitely get a full day doing all kinds of things on it. Oh and it never gets very hot and my birthdays are correct through Facebook. My mail (through AOL and Google) and my calendar (Google based) all work correctly. Just thought I would let others know that the phone can work just fine. I hope all of you get your issues resolved. This forum is such a great help.

Oh, I do shut it down every night and reboot in the morning. Perhaps that helps...?
