Root I did something so stupid...

I bought an HTC Evo 4G. It worked fine, but it had the wiped version of Android, 2.1. So, I installed the RA (Build : RA-Supersonic-v2.3 it says) and I try and install the MikFroyo mod, and it goes into permanent loop the first boot. So, I try and install the Team Nocturnal Shooter mod, and it does the same thing. So, I download the "Stock mod" and it goes into permanent boot loop.

What can I do?

My Evo 4g died a violent death. So I bought a used one with Android 2.1 on it.

I installed a custom RA recovery on it
I did not to a NANDROID backup
I did not root it
I tried installing MikFroyo on it, it went into endless boot
I tried installing the Shooter Mod on it, it went into endless boot
I tried installing the stock Mod on it, it went into endless boot

I have a micro SD USb card reader so that's not a problem. Please help me...

You can't flash a custom recovery without root.
You can't flash a custom ROM without a custom recovery.

This is a common sense problem, sir. Your phone is rooted if you were able to do all of that. Your phone is NOT dead. Learn to read directions.

When you're in custom recovery, WIPE DATA/FACTORY RESET every time before you flash a custom ROM. This is common sense and all instructions tell you to do this. Read and stop getting yourself in over your head.

I know, I know... I may have been drinking at the time... I did a factory data reset and it worked. Finished booting into the stock mod, and ended up booting right up. Installed MikFroyo over it and it seems to be working great except for a constant nagging "Media has stopped unexpectedly" error I have to click every three seconds.

The phone must have been rooted before I got it. I wanted to see what would happen if I just tried to install it as is.

Thank you for your help...

yeah it looks like you do not have good wiping habits. please read this guide:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html. skip the rooting part and go to the after root section. it has tons of info including how to flash a rom.

and wow mikfroyo!!!! thats a blast from the past. why did you pick that? you can flash any roms, try the more updated roms like mikg3.11.

you can find most of the current roms here:
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/618281-list-utilities-apps-roms-kernels-og-evo.html.
there is even a staff picks section that has great suggestions of roms to try. also in the second post there is more info on roms and kernels........check it out.

I rebooted back into recovery, and reset to factory again. Then, I flashed the MikFroyo ROM and restarted and everything is great. The ROM works great, no errors... Right now I am importing all 1,200 of my contacts (Taking a while) but everything looks good.

I do not know what the S- status is... Is there a way to find out without rebooting it?

Now, if I could only get any of the bluetooth keyboards to pair AND connect with it :(

s-off or s-on is your security status. it used to be an indicator of if you are rooted or not. but with the updated phones you can still be rooted and have s-on still. to find out what you have power the phone off then press and hold power+vol down. this will take you to the bootloader. if you can please type in what you see on the screen, mainly the info at the top of the screen will help.

and the only rom that has the right bluetooth stack would be cm7.

edit: and you should be wiping dalvik cache, cache and data before flashing a rom.

Okay I looked: It says S-off.

Thank you for giving me a link to those OG Evo programs and Mods... I don;t see one called cm7, am I looking right past it? I really need keyboard functionality...

ok so cm7 is an aosp rom, it will be way different then what you are used to. it does not have htc's sense overlay. it can be found in the list. it is under aosp.

but here is the link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1297538

also you want to flash the gapps file as well which is in the op. or you use this gapps with sprints voice mail messaging app inlcuded:gapps-modified-vvm-20110828.zip

again make sure you wipe really well. follow the guide i linked to earlier for proper instructions.

*Does a lot of research*

Keyboard functionality is number one, so... Bare bones is okay. I'd prefer faster/ better battery life anyway. Hey, let me ask you... Why don't they include the correct bluetooth stack in any other ROMs?

I performed the nandroid backup and downloaded the rom and just installed it (CM-7), rebooting it. I reset to factory and wiped all the caches.

P.S. your link to the ZZZVR superwipe is dead... I just used Amon RA...

No, I actually have a new question, now. I tried registering at the cyanogen forums but it is literally impossible right now, they have an error going on with their image verification system.

My phone can make calls perfectly. But when I try and use anything data- wise it won't work. I have tried enabling/ disabling wifi to get it to wake up, and nothing. Up here I am always roaming, so I made sure roaming is set to automatic, although there is no "roaming" triangle icon next to the bars, which makes me wonder if I am actually roaming or what.

Okay, I figured it out, I had to enable every single roaming option including international roaming (Which was weird) but it works, now. This is a good mod. Very basic, simple. I like it.

that is a great question that i cannot answer. it could be that cm did not release the code that they used or wish to share it. not positive on that one so please do not qoute me on that. LOL

and i fixed the link for the superwipe.

here it is if you want it:
ZZZVR_SUPERWIPE.zip

Hmmm...

Well, I bought a high speed micro SD card for recording video and I'd like to use it as the system card... But even after I copy all of the files from the old one to the new one, the phone still doesn't want to load the apps, etc. Is there a secret hidden thing I have to do to mirror the two cards?

Kinda late to the game here but what size and class sd card do you have?
What rom are you on? cm7?
How do you mean, the apps won't load...sorry for the many questions...:)

Um inside the phone it's a class four, or class six? And the new one is a class ten. Yes, i am on the CM7.

Like, if you boot the phone up without the card and nothing loads right... It's like that, even though the class ten card is in there and I copied everything over.

Was your old card partitioned?

Um yes, I believe I did partition it...
o.k...you may have to partition your new card to ext 3 or ext 4 like your old one was..The only thing I don't know is, if cm7 utilizes DarkTremors a2sd, which moves your apps to the ext partition. If it does, and if your new card is not partitioned, the transfer of apps from old to new card will be incomplete....hope I explained that right.:)

Like I said, I am not sure if cm7 utilizes DTa2sd or not..
