I don't really understand it.

i don't like to wait for anything anywhere at all, and won't either, it's not that important to me i have better things to do with my time. unless its something i want to do like post here. LOL

I think the age of the customer has quite a bit to do with it.

I am always seeing people line up for events long before they happen and the "kids" consider these events to be like many other social events.

At least there are not committing crimes, so I can live with it.

If John, George, Paul and Ringo were still together, I might line up for tickets. I can wait for an iPhone 5. I'll likely buy one in a few months when they arrive no-contract for two hundred bucks.
Well count me out for any long lines, especially if it's going to be days. if there are more than 10 people in the line, I can wait or just do without, unless they are giving away big time cash money!

I'm not committing a crime whichever one I decide.

the last long line that i heard of was the one in singapore where they flew in half-naked male models for a store opening. forgot the brand...it's a popular american brand...

Yup, just a phone. Like any other phone. The only difference is, any Android manufacturer would love to have huge preorders and long lines. And I bet if some Android maker did experience such reaction, some Android fanboys would be all over it saying how cool and neat and great it is.

But you are correct, it is just a phone.

It always bother me. It is rational to check out the device first or at least wait for reviews from other people who tried it.

most, if not all, of the current iphone 5 reviews out now are positive. i don't know what those reviewers were drinking/smoking :smokingsomb:

Love them or hate them, Apple did well to make an everyday technology into an item that people would queue up for days in advance.

You will not get that on Android as there is not one Android phone, but a huge selection. Samsung does comes close with the Galaxy S range though.

Hold on . . . what if most if not all of the reviews are honestly honest? Perhaps those that reviewed the devices found them acceptable, well made and insanely great?

I doubt all reviews are positive. Look at this place, will you? For God's sake, there is an Apple hater behind every tree.:D

And what about Android? Talk about unfair, biased and one sided coverage of Android. I mean everyone here is Android this and Android that . . it is almost as though the goal of this public forum is to promote Android. I think this place is biased, man.

What we are seeing with the Apple crazies is something every Android maker wants and if there were lines forming to purchase the next ho-hum beta test from Android, (:D) everyone here would be jumping and saying "take that Apple."

Face it folks, Apple is a hit and until Apple becomes cider, they will get the lion's share of the press and everything they do will be big news. And most reporters will continue to tell us how wonderful Apple is.

I'm willing to bet that quite a few of the phones bought by those in line will be on ebay shortly after purchase. Some are willing to wait in line for the latest new thing and others are willing to over pay by double to get it.

A huge turn off for me is the impression that Apple users give off as being arrogant because they own a device made by Apple. An example is the iPhone commercials with some actor/director having a conversation with their iPhone. It's something I have absolutely no use for. I use my phone to talk with real people, I don't need a phones intellect to make me feel smarter.

I guess that's why I will always be a PC and Android user. Apple gets an A+++++ for marketing though. This was something I thought would have fallen off a bit with the loss of Steve Jobs, but it has not.

My brother has an iPhone a recently upgraded his OS and lost all of his iTunes that were purchased and downloaded with the previous OS. Apple told him it would cost him $30 to retrieve his songs and have them put back on his phone again. Let's just say he is not going to be getting another iPhone any time soon.

But why would that happen in the first place? Did he back up his data?

I understand the draw of getting a highly hyped device first thing on launch day. I was waiting at the Verizon store for it to open for the GNex when it launched. Part of it was the hype of being here for two months non-stop ;). But I would not be waiting days for it.

I was at Best Buy when the doors opened for the Nexus, but I showed up at the store 5 minutes before they opened and just walked in. The Verizon store down the street had a line of about 30 people though.

No way I would wait in line for days or even hours to buy a phone. I think the worst I've ever done was waiting in line for 3 hours to buy concert tickets, but that was Metallica.

But why would that happen in the first place? Did he back up his data?

I have no idea. I am not sure if backing up was part of the upgrade process, but not all iPhone/Android users are tech savvy. It's very possible he missed a step. But he also recently bought a new laptop and was having trouble with iTunes. The Geek Squad (I Know, but it was under warranty) told him it was a virus. I didn't buy that explanation, but they did get it working. So who knows what was going on. Now that I think about it more, he did say something about backing up before the upgrade and the extra charge was for the bandwidth to download his back up, or something to that affect. I would have told them to stick it!

On a side note, he lives on a lake north of town and still has no broadband internet. He has to use a 3G access point he bought from AT&T. Hard to grasp that this is still the case in some areas in this great country.

If people make fools of themselves camping out to give a company money for a phone - a friggin' gadget - that does not make the people hipsters or the phone hip. They're just fools spending money on a gadget in a ridiculous way. If they're lucky, camping on a sidewalk will get them a couple seconds of public humiliation TV. And that ain't cool.

If it's a social event for these people and they enjoy it, more power to them, but I can barely stand waiting in line for a roller coaster at the amusement park, and I love me some roller coasters!:)

We have decided to make a day of it. We will be offering our S3s to those that already have an iPhone in the off chance they want to make a call. Not sure the iPhone lets you make calls, does it?

I was just fitted for my Android costume, so I am good to go. Look for the green android . . . I will be wearing a black turtleneck sweater and wire rimmed glasses.

It is just a phone, it's not like it's a star wars movie or a harry potter movie or even a twilight movie gah whats wrong with people, I just consider them wealthy beta testers

I just saw where the iphone 5 is selling for $3600 on the Russian (I think) black market.

That's why I wondered how many speculators were in line. With newer regulations on registered IMEI, just grabbing might not cut it.
