Well count me out for any long lines, especially if it's going to be days. if there are more than 10 people in the line, I can wait or just do without, unless they are giving away big time cash money!I think the age of the customer has quite a bit to do with it.
I am always seeing people line up for events long before they happen and the "kids" consider these events to be like many other social events.
At least there are not committing crimes, so I can live with it.
If John, George, Paul and Ringo were still together, I might line up for tickets. I can wait for an iPhone 5. I'll likely buy one in a few months when they arrive no-contract for two hundred bucks.
Yup, just a phone. Like any other phone. The only difference is, any Android manufacturer would love to have huge preorders and long lines. And I bet if some Android maker did experience such reaction, some Android fanboys would be all over it saying how cool and neat and great it is.
But you are correct, it is just a phone.
It always bother me. It is rational to check out the device first or at least wait for reviews from other people who tried it.
most, if not all, of the current iphone 5 reviews out now are positive. i don't know what those reviewers were drinking/smoking :smokingsomb:
Love them or hate them, Apple did well to make an everyday technology into an item that people would queue up for days in advance.
You will not get that on Android as there is not one Android phone, but a huge selection. Samsung does comes close with the Galaxy S range though.
A huge turn off for me is the impression that Apple users give off as being arrogant because they own a device made by Apple. An example is the iPhone commercials with some actor/director having a conversation with their iPhone. It's something I have absolutely no use for. I use my phone to talk with real people, I don't need a phones intellect to make me feel smarter.
I guess that's why I will always be a PC and Android user. Apple gets an A+++++ for marketing though. This was something I thought would have fallen off a bit with the loss of Steve Jobs, but it has not.
My brother has an iPhone a recently upgraded his OS and lost all of his iTunes that were purchased and downloaded with the previous OS. Apple told him it would cost him $30 to retrieve his songs and have them put back on his phone again. Let's just say he is not going to be getting another iPhone any time soon.
I understand the draw of getting a highly hyped device first thing on launch day. I was waiting at the Verizon store for it to open for the GNex when it launched. Part of it was the hype of being here for two months non-stop . But I would not be waiting days for it.
But why would that happen in the first place? Did he back up his data?
Here's the Register's take on those who are waiting in line:
Who queues for an iPhone 5? Protesters, hipsters and the jobless ? The Register
